? Analysis of Nursing Leadership A transitional leader can be described as one who embraces the redefinition of a peoples undertaking and dream, a renewal of their dedication and the reframing of their systems for objective achievement. It must be guided by moral foundation; this is to allow for mutual replication and increase kind of relationship. When it is aligned along these guiding principles, it allows for followers to be transformed into ethical leaders. Transformational leaders instill power progress with the aim of encouraging personal commitments amongst their staff towards organizational goals. Transformational leadership occurs when a leader put the interests of his employees first without overlooking the consciousness and recognition of the purpose and mission of the group. It also encompasses a leader who encourages employees to look beyond self interest but instead prioritize organizational goals. In doing so together, dedication and finely tuned capacity of the organization will lead to increased overall productivity. The so called transformational leader focuses on raising people from low level of need to, considered to be needed to survive state, to high level. They not only encourage their people to transcend their personal interests for other collective purpose, but also help them achieve a many personal needs as well. Transformational leaders are known to foster conviction, gratitude, commitment and respect amongst their followers. This calls for the leaders to perceive their followers or staff as whole people but not just as employee. This has made it possible for both the leaders and their followers raising each others ethics and motivations to levels which could not have been possible. Understanding of a transformational leader can be best through the outcomes. Despite this, it is not easy to come up with single conception of process to transformational leadership Working with a transformational leader would mean several things, both at individual and organization levels. The environment set by a transformational leader is one which can be termed as a favorable working atmosphere. It is worth noting that, a transformational leader helps to make change realistic through pushing for a convincing case for it. It is done by heightening follower’s keenness to environmental variations and challenges. For the case of a hospital, involving other stakeholders to give their mind on the services will be a better tool for gauging the success of this institution. Inspiration speeches given by transformational leaders to their followers makes them look forward to a new and better future. This needs ideological perception rather than just economical terms. This can be achieved by involving the whole staff in shaping and reshaping the hospitals strategic plan on a habitual basis. Surveillance on the staff in order to establish their needs will be advantageous to the workers as this makes them perform their duties with minimal destruction. Achievement of shared vision will be realized through coaching offered by transformational leaders. Working with a transformational leader instills sense of urgency. Collaboration need to be advocated for and self esteem be promoted. The existing environment has to be one which is conducive for knowhow creation and sharing. Leaders who recognize their followers based on the achievement instill self confidence amongst their followers which helps in improving the overall productivity. Incorporating change into the system goes along way in encouraging hard work amongst followers or staff. This can be done through monitoring advancement, changing evaluation and prize systems, and hiring employees with an obligation of collaboration. For the case of working without a transformational leader, all the above mentioned privileges will not be enjoyed by the workers. Prospects of growth that are linked with the efforts of transformational leaders will never be achieved in their absence. The overall productivity of the organization will be realized at a slow rate as compared to when transformational leaders are involved in the daily activities of the organization. This is because overall productivity is a product of individual productivity which is entirely dependant the efforts of a transformational leader. Others have been known for salvaging almost collapsing businesses such Lee Iacocca who saved the Chrysler Corporation. He took over Chrysler when it was almost bankrupt and transformed it. He did it through transforming the ideals of his closest subordinates. Being the savior of Chrysler, made other people admire him and in the long run the corporation was filled with efficient leaders. Among the several attributes of a transformational leader, below are some of them which I have admired to possess at some point. Having an idealized influence, pertains to building confidence and trust and at the same time being a role model that would lure one follower to emulate. A good leader will be respected, trusted and admired. Confidence coming from a leader is the basis for organizational change. Leaders whose followers are sure about him/her being virtuous will get no opposition in any proposal that they shall receive from such a leader. Charismatic is a characteristic of a transformational leader and relies on leader as well as followers for its expression. The correlation between charismatic and transformational leader is clearly evident during crisis in an organization, this will be realized through the action taken during such times. Being an inspirational motivator is linked to idealized influence but just like for the case of charisma being for motivation at individual level, inspirational does it for the whole organization. Transformational leaders tries to make their follower see the sense in going a good job and goes ahead to challenge them with high standards. This is normally done through motivating speeches and public displays of positive enthusiasm and optimism, embracing positive outcomes and championing for teamwork. Through such inspirational speeches, the followers are encouraged to work towards developing of attractive, substitute futures. Taking into consideration individual followers specific and unique desires and needs. This is to ensure that each individual gets included in the transformational process of the organization. The followers are treated as individuals as regards to their talents and knowledge. This gives them the opportunity of reaching higher levels of achievements which could not be possible had this been otherwise. This takes the form of expressions such as words of thanks or congratulate, just workload allocation and personal career counseling, mentoring and specialized progress activities. In order to improve home based care, the gap that is exists between primary care and care delivery need to be bridged first. Health care practitioners should be allowed to practice to the fullest their knowledge, training, capability and skills. Allowing this will mean establishing a standardized and widened scope of practice for highly developed registered nurses. Championing for the abandonment of legislations which affect home based nurses such as inability of a nurse to confirm home health care visits without physician supervision. Such legislation has led to a massive exit by many nurses from such area to those which are not restricted. This is closely linked to credentialed and making of payments where more restraining states are less likely than those allowing self-determining practice to permit nurse practitioner as principal care providers. Annotated bibliography 1. Julie A. Fairman, Ph.D., R.N., John W. Rowe, M.D., Susan Hassmiller, Ph.D., R.N., and Donna E. Shalala, Ph.D.(2011). Broadening the Scope of Nursing Practice. The New England Journal of Medicine, 364:193-196. Enacting of reforms in the health sector will see more people get insurance especially this time when there is a wide gap between those who need assistance and those who give care, which are primary care givers. It is perceived that there will be improvement in the health sector especially due to improved value via payment reforms being realized. Implementation of innovative model such as accountability in care organizations, medical centers, home based care and transitional care. In order to achieve any good result from the health sector, the currently existing gap has to bridged in the primary care and allow for establishment of fresh approaches to care delivery. This can be made possible by getting rid of legislations which bar health practitioners from carrying out the knowledge and training received if full. This can be realized through having a plain ground for practice in that, a nurse can practice in any state without restrictions as it is currently in most states. Scrutiny of nurses duties in delivering primary care have led to better services in this health sector. This has been because of the gained footing with the public. Research conducted by various experts have revealed that primary health care services that include, but not limited to, wellness and prevention services, diagnosis and control of several complex sensitive illnesses can be offered by nurses effectively without the supervision by physicians as it was earlier perceived. This was followed by the institute of medicine (IOM) reiterating that nurse’s scope of practice be broadened. This was after the organization came up with a conclusion that even nurses from states with restriction don’t perform with any tangible excellence or safety as it may be thought or even those from less restricted states offering substandard services as required of them. This made it possible for them to give an ok to other nurses to carry out their practice to the fullest with no more restrictions. 2. Kane, Fichman, Gallaughr and Glaser, (2009) Community Relations, Harvard Business Review Journal.2: By being charismatic, individualized in thought, possession of intellectual stimulation and inspirational motivation, an inspirational leader bears the greatest prospective of promoting performance passed the expectations and drive towards unforeseen changes in the organization which they lead. Transformational leadership is crucial in the current indecisive, globally unstable organizational era. The main objective of the journal is to inform practitioner and researchers in the nursing field about management and leadership. This is because in order for any improvement to be realized, leaders in this sector need to be a transformational type. I say so because if it is not so, the various challenges that do come up will not be attended to the appropriate way which may mean more problem in the area. Debating and exploring on the current issues by making sure that staff get involved in the discussion will provide an appropriate way forward to the problem. Accessing the evidence of the current practice would help in streamlining the sector for the better in case obstacles are noted in some areas. Addressing governance issues, excellence and wellbeing will drive the organization in question to success. In order for nurses to foresee organizations in areas such as management, it is necessary that they become knowledgeable in both administration and leadership. Therefore, knowhow on management and leadership is a main concern in order to realize relevant performance. References Whitehead, D. K., Weiss, S. A., & Tappen, R. M. (2007).
