Q.1 Bach is amplifying the music text by the means that he wants to provide teachings to the listeners, to the world by educating them on how to resist the world ungodly passions and help them achieve their musical goals by singing along to this cantata. He emphasizes that Jesus Christ gave himself to redeem us from all the wickedness and to purify us. Q.2 Instruments used for each movement in the cantata are: Horns are used in the first movement and are used as a welcome note for the cantata and still in the first movement the horns subside and the oboes pick up and go higher to pick up from the horns and create continuity of the song. violin and the oboes still playing at the second movement and they create a harmonious melody and are able to dominate the whole melody and gives the song the much needed soprano and some bit of alto. viola here is used because the sound it produces is not entirely like that of the violin but it is distinct and can be distinguished from the rest and it is unique on its own, and it picks up immediately at the third movement and its plays the leading role when the horns come in again and adds to the texture of the song making it come to a climax. oboes picks up at the fourth movement giving a unique soprano to the melody basso continuo is used at the fifth movement and a timpani giving it more heartbeats according to the rhythm and no horns here are used but toward the end when coming to the sixth movement the basso continuo goes low giving some alto and the horns pick up and the oboes giving the grace and soprano to the song. During the last movement which is the sixth movement a lot of harmony is depicted there is a little of soprano, little of the bass and the alto is quite high which is able to give balance to the melody and the texture is quite smooth towards the end. Q.3 Voices for each movement are needed and this is because in a melody we need to get the emotions, we need to feel the emotions and be able to depict what mood it should set us (listeners) into and be able to differentiate the climax of the song. As for the first movement, alto is used for the first movement and it gives pitch to the whole melody and sets the song in the right mood and the alto is accompanied by the horns, which makes it not seem so low for a start. In the second movement this is where the soprano picks up with the help of the viola and the oboes and the reasons why we get the soprano here is because its gives the song the gist and its able to stabilize the song and keep it at a level that’s catchy. In the third movement, the alto takes the leading role though there is harmony with the help of some bass and low sopranos, this is the point where the melody is able to be catchy and give the audience the true meaning and the emotions that are needed for the song, the meaning of the words are also depicted quite well. In the fourth movement, we get the soprano and this is because after a movement that has all voices and relaying all emotions, a break is needed and this is where we get a chorus with the soprano so that we still maintain the balance of the song. In the fifth movement, we go back to the mixture of alto, and little soprano so that we get the texture of the song. In the last movement, the alto is able to dominate the song, and is able to be outstanding so that the melody does not close on a vey low note and that is why the alto is used Q.4 Word paintings- word paintings are used to give the song more emphasis and what it means and to relay the emotions to the people and relay the feelings of what the song really means( otherwise listen to the music so that you get the tonal variations and the patterns and state them)* Q.5 Music components Notes & rhythms that has been brought about by harmonization Q.6 In the composition, accompanied recitative movement is used in and this is because we are able to get the emotions that are relayed and also the tonal variation are able to depict the support to the song and also the different voices that are used shows and proves that it is not dry but accompanied recitative. Q.7 Kind of basso continuo used is renaissance, this is because it is a character that’s continuous, and able to sustain the music and all the other musical instruments, it does not stop at only one movement but can be depicted from various movements Q.9 Emotions assigned for each movement: For the first movement the emotion that should set in is calmness because at this point we do not have to scare the listeners with so loud music and all instrument at ago, here we have the horns that are not so loud but are welcoming, so the emotion set here is Calmness. In the second movement, this is where the music gets to a pitch higher and the instruments tend too pick one by one and here the emotion that is relayed is motivation, the music becomes a motivator and the music all going up gives us an adrenaline rush. The emotion here is Motivation In the third movement, here we have the viola, which is uniquely playing, and this is supposed to give us a relaxation mood, after the high music instrument we get to feel relaxed, soothe mood here that is painted is Relaxation. In the fourth movement, we go back to soprano which is able arouse excitement because of the single voice that is able to keep the listeners going, so in this movement the main emotion is Excitement. In the fifth movement, here we get a feeling of harmony, here we are able to depict the success of the song because of the harmonious voice and set us in that mood of being peaceful, and the harmonious voice here is dragged to the sixth and the final movement where the mood is of contentment, excitement, and harmony. Q.10 The voices singing in the movements are polyphony and this is because the movement comprise of various melodic voices, which are a bit different rhythmically. Q.11 Difference between the instrumental accompany of the two recitatives (movements 2 and 4) In the second movement, the music is polyphonic and this is because we have different voices delivering at the same time and that is the soprano then the alto though the alto later goes a bit lower and here we have two kinds of instruments, the violin and oboes. In the fourth movement, the music is monophonic and this is because we have one distinct melodic line singing with accompaniment of the instrument –oboes. Q.12 Texture of the last movement in this cantata is heterophony, this is because we have multiple melodic voices which are independent o their own but are able to pick up simultaneously. Q.13 For movement 5: The technique of singing of the two voices in the Duetto (Soprano and Alt) of the 5 movement is bi-phonic and this is realized because we have two distinct voices and those are the soprano and the alto where the alto is able to support the soprano. A) Five melodic lines, a harmonious structure of a rhythm note are heard. The structure is harmonic with rhythm words at the end of stanzas emphasized to drive the message to listeners. The change in harmony goes up at the beginning of the song then drops at the end, at the beginning the mood is happy then gradually changes to sad. Generally repetition has been employed across the song in order to stress the message or the theme to listeners Read More
