Duke Ellington is not a musician that I normally listen too. But when I am in the mood for blues, classical and jazz, I really love Ellington’s compositions. But what I really look up to Ellington is because of his strong will and determination to achieve his goals in style. Whatever I have read about this man, it makes me want to say that I want to live like him. When he passed away, he died a calm and peaceful man, who can look over his life achievements and smile. The look of content on his face makes me envious.

When he wrote his first composition at the age of fourteen, he was working as a soda jerk at a café and named it something similar, “The Soda Fountain Rag”. This gives me inspiration about my studies, my career and my overall life. I have noticed that we miss a lot of things in our surroundings, thinking that they are not important, we don’t care about them but taking a closer look at them can reveal wonders. There is always so much going on around us and we are worried about something in our heads, Duke was not such a man, he found music in everything, and I would like to model him.

Duke Ellington is regarded as one of the greatest musicians of all times. He is awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. To completely list the number of people that this musical genius would be impossible, his legacy lives on. He has inspired musicians like Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, George Shearing, Judy Collins, Joe Jackson and even Steve Wonders who wrote a tribute song for the legend names ‘Sir Duke’. It was not his music alone that inspired people, he was a people’s person.

He had a magnetic personality and loved to work with different musicians.
