Journal About “My Only Hope” The of the song I would reflect on is My Only Hope, which was sung by Mandy Moore. I heard this old song a few years ago when I was watching the movie A Walk To Remember. It was a simple movie about a boy-girl relationship that ended because the girl died of a chronic illness. At first, the song seemed simple like any ordinary love song;however, one would appreciate its meaning as you watch the movie. In fact, I felt sad about the movie’s ending which was even worsened by this haunting melody.
The reason I chose this song for my journal is that it represents the typical struggle of young people today –loneliness. When you hear the lyrics of the song , it tells you of hopelessness at the start when the singer says” I’m awake in the infinite cold but you sing to me over and over again”. As the song continues, you would see that the person is pertaining to someone considered “only hope”. Indeed, young people are always depending on someone to give them happiness. They are hoping that whatever situation then maybe, things would change.
I think this is but just a normal reaction of any human being, old or young. The beauty of this song relies on the lyrics, the emotions projected by the singer as well as the beautiful rhythm produced by the background piano. In the end, if you listen to the song, you would realize that no matter what happens, everyone is always hoping for better things in their life. My Only Hope sang by Mandy Moore. From the album “Best of Mandy Moore”.
