The story line therefore integrates morality and professionalism and shows how solders often find themselves in tricky situations where they have to take lives as they tend to guard theirs and the felling associated with the act of killing. Also the story advances the idea that solders are human and they have feelings too as the role of Kiowa illustrate in his tendency to help solders cope with their personal actions. Norman Bowker is the solder who attempted to save kaiwa the day he died. When he failed to do so he took the aftermath upon himself and upon return home hangs himself due to self-condemnation.
The writer tries to show how solders bear a heavy burden of trying to convince themselves that whatever happened they would not have saved it. Journal two In the story of the good afternoon the author relies on fiction to showcase the realities of the viatenems war. The author creates an imaginary truth that is used to describe happening truth. Through his writing he considers wakening the readers feeling by exposing the reader to the realities that if otherwise presented in the naked truth manner would result to fear instead of the intended purpose of understanding the solders misery in the frontline.
The writer applies non frictional technique to relay the massage hence avoiding any conflict and collusion with the authorities. Throughout the story the author maintains the fictional nature despite the author and the protagonist sharing a name and their career being the same. The fictional approach was to save him from military condemnations but the sharing of identity and profession is to bring the massage in a polite way about the truth that can only be revealed but not discussed. Mitchell Sanders is a soldier who regards himself as a play boy.
He narrates the escapades of him with the Red Cross nurse and in addition the fact that he carries a tiger fatigue. The solder serves as the RTO for the platoon where he established himself. Journal three Azar is a young soldier who is in continuously acts of brutality which are of less importance to the platoon. His brutality is a defense mechanism which he uses to show his dissatisfaction with decisions made. The trait of this dis satisfaction is seen when he assists Obrien in the vengeance act for Bobby Jorgenson and mocks his superior Obrien for refusing to take the revenge further.
This disturbing emotional instability continuously consulted the strength depleted solder in consoling himself that everything will work to favor them. The spirit of vengeances characterizes the solders intention since all were involved in carrying out the revenge attack and in particular the revenge of bobby which resulted to a mock session by Azar. The willingness to kill by the solder was a demonstration of the limited options a solder has when in a battle field to an extent that they would derive consolation from killing.
