I love the people, my neighbors, because I grew up with most of them, so racialization is not much of an issue as far as I am concerned. But as a family that is half-Taiwanese and half-Japanese, ours causes a lot of confusion because my country (Taiwan) used to be a colony of Japan, and even now, many decades later, when some new people in my neighborhood learn that we are half-Japanese, you can see their brains as they think of all sorts of questions, making mental classifications that affect their behavior.
