The planning and implementation of this Quality management system were not easy and met many challenges. These challenges included a lack of knowledge by the winery management on the requirements and documentation of the ISO 9001:2000, financial deficits especially to pay an external certification, and training seasonal employees. The ministry of development for Greece solved the financial problem by financing the third-party certification. Training and seminars eliminated the problem of ignorance about the Quality Management System.

In addition to training, consultant, and certification fees, other costs included the money needed to collaborate with external laboratories for chemical analysis and the purchase of new equipment. The implementation of a quality management system would enable the winery to improve internal communication, improve customers’ satisfaction, reduce faults in its products and enter new markets.

The important lessons include the reasons why an organization requires implementing a Quality Management System (QMS). The QMS would help organizations venture into new markets, improve product quality, and satisfy customers better than competitors. Another lesson drawn from the reading is that Knowledge of the QMS is very important to an organization’s management since it is usually in charge of the implementation. The implementation of the QMS faces many obstacles that should be eliminated for the system to work efficiently. Another lesson is that the implementation is costly financially and in time consumption.

Product quality determines success in business and economies in general. Implementation of QMS can help meet the objects of many organizations most of which are customer satisfaction and making great profits. QMS implementation requires an organization’s management commitment in establishing and driving it. Knowledge about the implementation is crucial to the success of QMS. An organization’s employees must be motivated to ensure that they accept QMS implementation.
