The idea of semiotics based from the explanation of Barthes implies the kind of understanding that humans place on the different images that they see in the society.1 One particular aspect of human society that uses semiotics is art. Barthes primarily makes an implicative explanation as to how the different signs of life and the elements of life used by painters of the 1500’s century tried to send messages to the people through their works of art.

In this case, the use of a woman and a girl gives an idea of gender-centered art. If observed directly, it could be noted that the woman and the girl are simply taking a relaxing rest maybe at the park or at least a peaceful area. But when seen with a deeper analysis of the different elements that makes up the said work of art, it could e identified that Edouard Manet tried to use semiotics to identify the both the relationship between the two generations of women and how they are placed together to be presented within the painting.

3 Mindfully, the utilization of the colors also reinstates the idea of making the entire presentation more focused in presenting femininity
