How has humanity been successfully presented through art? Barthes believes in this aspect of semiotics used in art to do so. The idea of semiotics based from the explanation of Barthes implies the kind of understanding that humans place on the different images that they see in the society.1 One particular aspect of human society that uses semiotics is art. Barthes primarily makes an implicative explanation as to how the different signs of life and the elements of life used by painters of the 1500’s century tried to send messages to the people through their works of art.
2 Likely, the use of symbols in their works has sent the kind of understanding that the said painters wanted to send to their audience. As for Edouard Manet, the use of signs in his art work portrayed the creativity that he has and the kind of idealism that he would likely want to present as a mirror of the society that he lived in. In this particular work of Manet as posted above, the idea of Barthes on the use of semiotics through art is signified through the utilization of real life posted through an artistic appreciation of the mediums of portrayal used within the said painting.
In this case, the use of a woman and a girl gives an idea of gender-centered art. If observed directly, it could be noted that the woman and the girl are simply taking a relaxing rest maybe at the park or at least a peaceful area. But when seen with a deeper analysis of the different elements that makes up the said work of art, it could e identified that Edouard Manet tried to use semiotics to identify the both the relationship between the two generations of women and how they are placed together to be presented within the painting.
