Extract of sample "Application of Organizational Assessment"

As a practitioner, I would use the Institutional and Organizational Assessment Model (IOA Model) described by Universalia. The model would be appropriate for organizational assessment because of its multidisciplinary nature (Lusthaus, 2002). It views the performance of the organization from various angles. The different functional areas in the organization contribute to its overall performance. Factors such as the organization’s motivation, capacity, and the external environment all work together to determine the performance.

As such, it would be relevant to implement an organizational assessment process that incorporates all these components. Before conducting the assessment, an important consideration to remember is to choose between performing a self-assessment or external assessment. Both methods may yield results. However, despite the importance of using self-assessment to own the assessment, it may raise integrity issues among donors. This would go against the initial plan that was to assess performance with the aim of getting more funds for my organizations.

Results from the organizational performance may use in a variety of ways. The data can be significant in capacity building, promoting the relationship with funders or partners and developing future developmental strategies. However, before using these results for any purpose, their use must be well planned at the onset of the assessment process.
