Case Study Case Study Children’s Rights Article of the UNCRC terms a child as an individual aged below 18 years unless excluded by a special law in any country setting the legal age to be lower than that. Further, Article 2 of the UNCRC demands non-discrimination of a child or an end to any form of unfair treatment directed towards a young person. Article 3 of the UNCRC defines the best interest of a child that must form the primary concern during any decision, the policymaking process, or legislation formulation. Article 4 of the UNCRC stipulates the protection of children’s rights supported by Article 12 that demands respects of a child’s views (Great Britain 2013, p. 8). Children rights advocacy in the UK takes the efforts of many stakeholders. Besides the UNCRC, which is implemented in the UK, UK laws recognize the necessity to ensure full protection of children’s rights. A parent serves as the primary caregiver for every child in the UK. There are several organizations together with the government, which ensure that the children live stress-free life. My Case The case entails stressful situations that I undergo as a 16-year-old girl. My mother is in a turbulent relationship that affects the entire family. I rarely contact my biological father. My three siblings belittle me. My mother serves as a nurse at a local nursing home and is rarely available to perform her responsibility as the family’s primary care-giver. Most of the time, I serve as the primary caregiver for my siblings in her absentia. Taking care of my siblings is a challenging task because I must report to the Youth Offending Office every day. The police arrested me for alleged robbery. Besides, I have other duties to perform. Although on a part-time basis, I must attend a specialist educational facility meant for young individuals who exhibit educational and behavioral difficulties. The office arranged for me to start attending a pupil referral unit. I have to balance between the referral unit and my statutory education. I intend to join a catering course after my GSCE, which I am due to complete. At home, I do not get sufficient time for sleep because the house has limited space for the family. I sleep on the sofa, instead. An adult recently raped my sister, Laura, and I feel it is a fundamental concern for me to sacrifice my commitments and help her through the hard times she is undergoing. I, however, have limited support and guidance to help my sister. As the victim, I need help from relevant groups of professionals. The Help I Expect From the Various Groups of Professionals CRAE is a key institution mandated to implement the UNCRC and advocate children rights (CRAE 2015, p. 1). The alliance is in the best position to address my concerns. UNCRC outlines the fundamental rights of a child as the right to play, to education, to respect for family life and privacy among others. In England, the law protects children through The Equality Act of 2010, which outlaws any forms of child abuse. The rape case concerning my younger sister, Laura is another example of the violation of children rights, which the laws protect. The judicial system in England is among the key institutions mandated to address my concerns. The judicial system implements applicable legal provisions that protect children’s rights such as the Equality Act 2010. The Act condemns discrimination against children. Other legal provisions implemented through the court can help me to get the best solution. The court forms a unit, which interprets the laws. The judicial system serves as an avenue to address the concerns of my sister. The Participation Works Partnerships group can help me voice my problems. The organization collaborates with other institutions such as Action for Children, British Youth Council, Children Rights Alliance for England, Children Rights Officers and Advocates, KIDS, and many others. The mentioned groups form gateways for defending children’s rights in the UK (Participation Works Partnerships 2015, p. 1). I would request the group to intervene in my case based on laws that protect the rights of children and the youth. The Participation Works Partnerships organization should find the most amicable way of solving the problem. The institution has experienced staff who have had such cases before and, which makes me hope that I will iron out the issues with my family. I am willing to give the necessary evidence if the group requires me to do so. The staff from the group can approach my mother and address her about the problems. In case she is unwilling to change, a legal process would be best applicable. The Youth Offending Service is a viable group that can help in my situation. The team can help me take my parents to court for offending me and possible violation of children’s rights. The team can help me at the police station during arrests, as a child. Helping children during arrests at by the police forms a key mandate of the team. The team can work in coordination with the school and local authority to address my problem. Further, the can work with charities to provide my basic needs such as donating sleeping materials (Gov.UK 2015, p.1). The team can help my sister Laura with her case of assault by an adult. Outside the UK, the UN committee on the rights of the child CRC, can act as a viable organization to address my concerns. The committee monitors the implementation of UNCRC among member states, England inclusive (UNHR 2015, p.1). It can act as a platform to voice my plight as a child and call for appropriate actions against parties such as my mother for failure to consider my rights. Conclusion The various organs of the government and institutions should help me to find the best approach to my problems. They can help me make my mother serve as the primary care-giver to my siblings and shift the burden away from me. The law has provisions that children should feel protected. Parents should bear the whole responsibility of raising their family as stipulated under the law.
