Professor NameInstitution, course numberDateWhy I have chosen nursing as a career Everyone needs support during the hard times. In most cases family is the source, which always provides care and attention to the person, who faces difficulties. However, not all people nowadays can receive the support from the members of their families. Such people can be often met in hospitals. That is why nursing is the hope for those, who faced such life conditions. The aim of this work is to describe the reasons, why I have chosen nursing as a career and analyze three main qualities, required for being a good nurse.
The first time I felt I would like to be involved in this profession was, when I saw the ill man in one of the local hospitals, who was searching for his ward, as he had lost it. However, there was no medical staff to help him. I came to the registration table and asked the woman who sat there to take care for him. At that moment, I understood that I felt great empathy to that confused and foggy man. He looked so sad and helpless that I couldn’t but intervene in his trouble. Since that time I began to dream to become a nurse.
The main reason I have chosen particularly this profession is my deep desire to help those people, who face difficult times and feel lonely in this situation. When I began to work with patients, I felt a real satisfaction from my speciality. Doing the bedside care for them was not the necessity, but my internal desire to make their life easier and to provide them with the support and positive mood. I always tried to be attentive to my patients. I brought them pills in time, constantly checked their state and asked them if they needed anything.
When I saw that my patient was in a bad mood I tried to tell him something interesting in order to distract him from negative thoughts. In addition, the major advantage in my speciality is that it has room to grow. That is the reason I’m going back to school. I understand that acquiring knowledge and applying them on practice will help me to achieve good results in the development of my future career. However, not every person possesses the qualities, which are required for being a good nurse.
In my opinion, there are three main character features, which identify the real professional of this work sphere. They are compassion to another person, attentiveness and responsiveness. It should be mentioned that nurse is both the profession and style of life. There are many situations, which happen not in the frames of the work time and require the rapid assistance. That is why one more quality, which is very important for a nurse is hardworking and the ability to study as much as one can.
Unlike other professions, nursing is connected with the care about person’s health and assistance to a doctor, who deals with the history of the patient’s disease. The qualification of the nurse predetermines the further state of the patient and the conditions, which he will face during the period of treatment. Attentiveness is described in this work as one of the most important qualities of nursing, because it is closely connected with the holding of medical documentation and providing the patients with medicines in the proper amounts.
The mistakes in such areas of medicine may cause the irreversible consequences. As for the responsiveness, we may indicate that nurse is a part of the structure, which is formed by the whole medical team. Thus, it should not be violated by incompetence and irresponsible behavior. Concluding this article, it is important to mention that any profession has its advantages and disadvantages, but the choice of it is always predetermined by the internal qualities of the person. The profession of a nurse provides not only the financial stability, but gives the feeling of necessity.
Nursing is the sphere, where the working staff faces thousands of people’s problems, their sorrows and pains. A good nurse knows how to make another person feel better and insure hope in his heart. Thus, nursing is one of the most solicited professions in the world. Works CitedWatson, J. Nursing: human science and human care: a theory of nursing. New York: National League for Nursing, 1988.
