The gradual change in health and safety from prescriptive content to more proscriptive content implies that risk safety measures should be risk based and not rote based on the broad legislative requirements. The company should therefore recognize and commit themselves to the acceptability that risk assessments should be the basis for safety measures. The company should maintain continuous improvement in health and safety standards because it provides a tremendous platform which helps make a significant impact. This programme will build on the past cases of illness and injuries as well as achievements to embed safety culture and health and safety within individual employees of the company. To this end, targets will be defined upon which employees will drive improvements and change as well as measure performance. This will help reduce ill health, lost time, accidents as well as improve company’s safety performance. Key aim of the health and safety plan The main aim of the program is to formulate and maintain uphold a health and safety culture in order to reduce opportunities for ill health and accidents through effective management of safety, health and welfare. The following five objectives must be developed to achieve the above aim:- a) To offer health and safety guidance and policies that offer clear direction and support to realize best practices. b) To ensure sufficient competency of all the employees and levels of management to carry out their duties in line with health and safety. c) To facilitate the incorporation of health and safety issues into the company’s decision making process to ensure appropriate and effective allocation of resources by all levels of management. d) To support the advancement of health and safety plans to increase standards as well as their implementation, for all the stakeholders who are affected by the company’s activities. e) To examine and appraise the health and safety performance and motivate all the levels of management to adopt effective measures to improve performance and lower health and safety losses. The following resources were used to do a needs assessment in order to determine the exact needs of the XYZ Company in regards to its health and safety program. Maintain relevant OSHA Logs and store in Blue Binder in Hubbel’s Office B. Gather and keep the OSHA 300 log, the annual summary, the privacy case list, and C. Formulate a health and safety policy to act as a guide Safety Objective #5 - MSDS “RIGHT TO KNOW” STATIONS ACTION STEP PLANNED DATE OF COMPLETION DATE COMPLETED A. List all chemicals used within the company B. Pinpoint MSDS form for each chemical C. Produce two clearly labeled hard copies of the MSDS forms in yellow binders. One copy should be should be accessible to the employee, and the other one should be kept in the main chemical storage area D. Assess first aid supplies available in the company to see if the company’s need will be met should there be an accident B. Position first aid kits at strategic points throughout the premises of the company (each should be placed with fire the extinguisher) C. Review the company’s occupational stress and work pressure management policy B. Undertake a company Stress Survey annually C. Ensure regular inspection of all sprinkler and extinguishers system and alarm system to make sure that proper extinguishers are in place and keep records of the inspections B. Set up emergency evacuation plan E. Train staff on the correct use of fire extinguishers F. Carry out monthly fire drill and document G.
