What are some joys and triumphs your family has celebrated? The respondent stated that the greatest joy that the family has celebrated is the fact that all the children have gone through schooling.3. What are some challenges your family faces? The various challenges include going without food, being sent home for school fees, and lacking several basic needs. 4. Describe the relationship you have with your child’s teacher.

The respondent stated that the teacher has been helpful in understanding the child and sometimes keeps the child in school even before paying school fees. 5. What do you wish your child’s teacher knew or understood better? The teacher has been friendly and tolerate but the respondent wished the teacher would understand that the school fees are sometimes donated by well wishers and therefore can really delay. 6. What strategies have you noticed your child’s teacher using to build a relationship with you?

The respondent stated that the teachers send notes to her and sometimes call her to school for a bonding session. 7. Has your child’s teacher or school shown support to your family? If so, how? The respondent stated that the teacher has been able to help the child benefit from the bursaries given and advices the family on some of the available agencies that can assist them. 8. What is one way your child’s teacher could better support your family?The respondent stated that the better could do better by allowing the child to always be in school even before school fee is paid.9. Can you give an example of someone who has shown support to your family?

Why was the support meaningful to your family? The respondent stated that the pastor of their local church showed so much support by settling school fees of one of the children. This was significant since without it the child could have missed exams. 10. How might the community show better support to families? The community should always be willing to support such families through raising funds for them and providing the much needed basic needs. 11. Are you satisfied with the support provided so far by the community The respondent stated that she is not satisfied with the support provided by the community since they have gone to bed without food while the neighbors have excess food at their disposal.12. Are there groups within the community for such families The respondent stated that there are no such groups.

Summarize the information have you learned about your family type (characteristics, background information, description) that would be helpful for teachers to know in order to learn some background on the family type. Give at least three key ideas. This is a single parent family that has a mother who is also disabled. The family lacks the basic needs and relies on well wishers to clear the school fees. Further, the family is in need of support to improve their living standards. 2. Describe stresses and challenges specific to this family type.

The stresses and challenges include inadequate economic power, social and psychological problems as well as inadequate parental guidance to the children. 3. Describe strategies and tips that will be helpful for teachers in order to work effectively with the family type. Teachers should provide frequent guidance and counseling to the children from such families. Furthermore, with the financial difficulties, the teachers should ensure that the children from such families are enrolled into programs that can help take care of their financial needs.

Finally, the teachers should ensure that such children are kept in school at whatever cost. 4.
