A Turning Point: Personal ment Life brings a lot of opportunities to us but without acknowledging about them. It is important for everyone to be aware of the alerts about new options coming on our way. Most of the time, the offers of luck force us to choose among likes and compulsions. All through the span of student life, there are limitations that make the choice more difficult; while a lot of the limitations are bound to parental pressure, others come from the discouragement we perceive about the possible failures in accomplishing the desired results. For whatever reason, the major diversion from an existing stream of study will mean a turning point in life, because the career and the prospective life is normally based on the fruitfulness of the change we adopt in the final stages of education. Just like anyone else, I also have something to tell about the turning point that came into my life, and I would like to describe the same thing in this essay. I was pursuing my studies in medical sciences as a disciplined student. There were reasons for my self -imposed discipline; and first of it was due to my scholastic merit that I got admission in the university. Secondly, my parents were so ambitious about my becoming a doctor. Each day I woke to incomplete portions of academics as anyone else, but the lapses occurring in my studies were thought-provoking, and I used to feel guilty of scoring less. I realized that I was gradually becoming weak to compensate the huge expectations set on me by parents. The transformation of my attitudes towards doctors started taking place on one of those days. It was the beginning of a summer that we were assigned community visits as part of our curriculum. We were divided into groups of five students headed by a doctor. The work was visiting homes of people living in remote villages for observing symptoms of epidemics and creating awareness about the precautions for a few imminent seasonal diseases. I had already prepared to practice the theoretical knowledge and the experimental approaches set for the visit. In books, we were always taught to see human beings as patients and subjects of our case study. The village welcomed us with a series of sights which touched my heart. Children were clad in rags, and old people were almost naked for the essential pieces of clothes they had were too small for them. Young men and women seemed too weak to carry on their daily work. I found it was never possible to compare the living standards of urban people with those of their counterparts in the villages. It was always heard from the journals that healthcare department of the government provides facilities to rehabilitate the people in rural areas by establishing healthcare centers and employing doctors for their medical services. However, the pathetic conditions of the sick people and the poor quality of medical care prevailed there astonished me a lot. Being curious to know more about the actual situation I skipped the camp at times and moved around the village and visited some educated youth. They revealed the shocking stories of the corruption of the medical department in the maintenance of the health centres and medical care units of the area. Medicines and healthcare equipment meant for the rural population were sold out to private parties and the centres almost always remained unanswered buildings resembling the ghost-possessed mansions in the horror stories. Doctors behaved no better than quacks who never wished to diagnose the patients before the prescriptions were written. Some of the doctors even referred patients to private hospitals in cities by running a secret nexus. I understood the fact that the doctors were completely negligent and voracious and posed like nothing but disgrace to the entire medical ethics. It was enough for me to justify my distance from the medical education that had already started developing in my mind. I would never want hear and witness what I heard from many of the victims of the unethical profiles of some of the reputed doctors. Initially it was heavy study load the reason, but by the exposure to true social implications of medical negligence, I underlined my decision to deviate. I was so keen watching business news, and read articles covering statistics. It was mainly because I liked games like cricket in which statistics matters a lot. Particularly when we consider the fact statistics brings accuracy to information, I grew curious to study it. I was enthusiastic to adopt the new path because of the emotional injury I conceived from the earlier course of my studies. I observed that statistics professionals are exposed to a more sincere task than doctors. The involvement of factors like sample study, case evaluation and data collection makes it inspiring for a new comer. Apart from this, the importance of statistics in making comparative studies of almost all topics is one of the most important features that attracted me well. From the day I started learning statistics, I focused on managing myself to produce more rewarding effect of my new choice. My parents still think that I have made a wrong choice by leaving medicine. Whereas, I am fine with it, because, there are no pains to hear from the victims; nor that I will ever have to feel helpless looking at the negligence and corruption prevailing among doctors. In the new course, I have limited interactions with people as most of the education and practice based on documents and estimates based on applied principles bound to different laws. It surely keeps me engaged and relaxed at the same time. In medical education, each practical assignment ended in some kind of emotional uneasiness and prolonged feeling of incompleteness. On the other hand, now I am able to enjoy the completeness of each of my task and I think I can enjoy my studies much better. I have great confidence to achieve a good place to work after the completion of my studies. It is stress-free and keeps me optimistic about my future without emotional setbacks. Above everything, I think if I had continued medical sciences, I would have ended up in dismay for I can never tolerate corruption.
