ID Number: Infancy/Toddlerhood Paper Interview My topic for the Human Development Papers is Infancy/Toddlerhood. In order to gain more information on this particular topic I have conducted an interview with one of my co-workers Maria so as to gain insights about her motherhood and some details about her son. She works for about 32 hours in a week and at the same time has to take care of her son Joshua who was born on 31st January 2012.Q. What was the birth weight of Joshua?A: My son was weighing about 7 pounds when he was born.
I was keen to learn whether the baby weighed normal as I had studied in the book that “the average weight of a newborn should be around 3400 grams or 7 ½ pounds (Feldman 94). Q. Did you ever send your son to a babysitter or to any daycare when you and your husband were not staying together in the same city for work purpose?A: My husband Sam stayed in New York for his work and my school where I work is located in Chicago. Till date I have not send Joshua to any babysitter somewhere I do not have much faith and trust on babysitters or in any form of daycare.
I live with my parents at Chicago so either I am back from work early or my mother takes care of my son. As I have read the chart given in Feldman 101, she usually returns from the work in half time as stated in the chart for the family leave in the United States. This states that for those ladies who become mother for first time are more protective towards their child. Q. When was it that your son walked and talked for the first time?A: The first time that Joshua started walking was at a year and two weeks.
I do not remember exactly when he started to talk but as far as I am remember it was 7 months ago. Joshua as per the interview can be stated that falls under the 50th percentile in terms of walking as the average age for this is at 12months (Feldman 125). From the given information it can be stated that physical ability of the child is very good. This also states that physical development of the child is in accordance with age (Feldman 128). The vocal ability of the child is also accurate. Joshua is just two years old and is able to form complete sentences that states that his cognitive development is also right on track which are indeed a very good indication (Feldman 156).
Cognitive development of those children within the schedule facilitates future growth and prosperity of the child (Feldman 160).Q. To what degree is the attachment of Joshua with you in comparison to Sam and that with other people?A: Joshua does not like to be around with strangers or with relatives. He makes friends but only after being and observing a kid for a long time. With Sam he is very friendly and plays all the time with ball, or learning music, watching cartoon, etc. With me he is as any son would be with his mother.
Joshua is very slow in terms of forming relationships with other. This indicates that he is not so much fond of social gatherings which would affect the overall social development (Feldman 213). Joshua possesses a stranger anxiety which is a common phenomenon that is observed in infants as they become aware of who are their known ones and who are strangers. Whenever Maria tells him that he is in safe hands he easily gets attached even with a stranger. This clearly states that the limitations in child care restricts an infant from trusting and getting along with other people, which ultimately results into slower social development (Feldman 215).
