Describe briefly the core concepts of the topic you are discussing. The discussion is based on alcohol and substance abuse in educational settings. This is a common problem which has attracted much discussion but not much is being done to eliminate the problem in the nursing setting.Discuss how these concepts apply to nurse education, citing one specific example of this application. One of the competencies of a nurse educator is to be a change leader and leader to the students. Students who have engaged in alcohol and substance abuse need someone to change them without necessarily having to face harsh punishment from the school administration which will only end up aggravating the problem in future (Billings and Halstead, 2012).

According to the Journal of Clinical Nursing, the number of nursing students involved in alcohol and substance abuse has been on the rise and it is the role of a nurse educator to help them since they spend most of their time together (Monroe and Kenaga, 2011).Describe how the information applies to the area of nursing education you are interested in.I am interested in becoming a clinical instructor for registered nurses (RNs). These students are novices in the nursing career and hence immense pressure is upon them which makes many of them resort to indulging in alcohol and other substance to ease the stress and pressure.

Continual usage leads to abuse which is what is making their number increase drastically in this field.
