to mass atrocities being perpetuated in different regions of Darfur and urges the global citizens to become politically dynamic, to help prevent further lives from being displaced, marginalized and destroyed. This clearly optimistic book portrays the writers’ belief that it’s never too late to act, they collectively believe, blameless civilians of Darfur have a chance to life only if the new age global citizens are willing to protect them. The narrative of the book is in first person and consists of gruesome tales of refugees who have fled from Darfur following attacks from the Janjaweed and Sudan’s military forces, and are now residing in refugee camps.

It details to the reader the atrocities that they have had to suffer and makes them feel responsible for this suffering. It compels the reader to connect with these experiences at a personal level and generate feelings of care. The book towards the end also provides to the readers some practical strategies that could be used by them to help ease the suffering of these people, thus urging them to commit, to make a difference. The comprehensive nature of the book is imbibed in its ability to move its audience with narratives and at the same time pressurize them for action by inspiring them to go an extra mile.

Both the authors of this book have travelled thoroughly among people and places affected by the genocide. They have heard not just accounts of rape, murder or poisoning but of how people from a particular region have lost out on a future. They have witnessed firsthand entire villages charred to ashes and wells stuffed with dead bodies and have been moved by the intensity of the violence that is being perpetuated. The authors term this genocide ‘madness’ and John Prendergast states, “…This fills me with an anger that can only be reduced when the genocide is halted and justice is served for the perpetrators, or at least those who orchestrated this madness.
