Extract of sample "Anecdotes in Management"

Anecdotes in life are intrinsically linked to learning from one’s own experience or from others. In-office, these stories become the pillar of organizational culture and inspire the workforce for optimal performance. Recently in a marketing brainstorming session, my manager told us a story of marketing executive XX, who had great credibility in the market. Though he was extremely good, he was not much liked by his colleagues because of his innate honesty, a strong sense of commitment and sensitivity towards the underprivileged.

XX was different because he neither lied to advance his career nor compromised with principles to give any extra mileage to the customers.Once, his wife was hospitalized in critical condition and he was informed while he was finalizing an important deal with a client. He immediately told the customer that his wife was in hospital in critical conditions and the deal would have to be finalized later. Despite a competitive market, the customer agreed and even offered to take him to the hospital.

The deal was finalized after three days. The manager informed us that customer had waited not because the products and services were different but because of the credibility of XX who was renowned for his high ethics and professional honesty.
