CEO in Nokia It is being a great honor and great pleasure for me to be the new CEO of world renowned company Nokia. The company which needs no words for its appreciation, its heights of success speaks. I do not believe in formal speech rather than I shall address you people with your words. According to Mr. Martin, CEO has to be the real face of the company (Kets de Vries 17). My speech is based on these points. Definition of Leaders Leadership Principles My Vision Leaders are those people who innovate new things. They have charismatic personality who has the power to influence others. They have something new in their mind all the time. Most importantly, they have the courage and dare to do. They have good communication skills. They are not the owner on employees but they provide such environment to workers in which they can work easily, encouragely and inspirely. They bring out the best in them. They are not perfect but own these abilities of accepting new ideas, taking risks and challenges, motivates their employees and provides them with the best environment. They are always energetic and action oriented. They do not have their own benefits but they work for the organization and of course for the people. They are result oriented. Additionally, they are always ready to accept changes and responds rapidly to varying challenges. In fact, the leader is a mentor (Kets de Vries 19). Leadership is very crucial for the organization’s success. Everything in this universe has its principles so as leadership. Firstly, leaders should start with realities. They must be able to recognize their responsibilities in creating the problems. Then they should call their work teams together and take them into his confidence that if they work as a team then they can sort out things and can fix problems. They cannot solve their problems until they get realize their role. Secondly, they have the courage to face bad things and have this confidence that these are not so bad one that cannot be overcome. Hence, they will be in this position to encourage their employees that things can be made better in order to get rid of the problem. Thirdly, the rise and fall is a part of the business so they must be able to make good in rising time of the organization which helps them to fight out in crisis situations. The fourth important thing is that they must be able to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders like Atlas, in crisis situations (Kets de Vries 8-9). This means to become isolated from the world and think upon the ways to solve this crisis in short time. The next vital thing is that they must be the first in making sacrifices, if there is some sacrifice situation then he should be the first volunteer rather than his employees. The sixth principle is that they should never waste a good crisis and make tiny changes in this situation. Finally, crisis gives good opportunity to make things in your favor. Rather than sitting on your back and wait for the crisis to settle down which never happen and if so happens then the business do not return back to its previous position as the markets are changed after this scenario. My vision lies in Branson’s business maxim in which employees are first, customers are second and shareholders are at the last (class notes 12). I believe in the empowerment of the employees, for me they are the real building blocks of any organization. So, they are at the top of my priority list. Our real strength lies in employees. I believe in those people who give new ideas and has the courage to beat the competitors. Giving them the best environment, encouraging to their new ideas, motivating them is what I believe in. When they are free at their work, they will produce the best in them with high speed. As we all know that in this age of rush, speed matters so we must courage employees to achieve competitive speed levels which will increase our production. Also in this context, quality is also a key issue in gaining success heights. Something on which we do not compromise and that’s why we are here today where everyone wants to stand. Newly appointed CEOs often makes such mistakes that they create an environment of boss and servants, lets clear this away, I am a person from you people so come to me with your exciting and innovative ideas directly and start on working that. But once you started, I expect you to stand with it. Every minor innovative idea is useful to me (class notes 11). I believe in small is beautiful. The employees must be rewarded in order to appreciate and encourage them to go on. I believe in healthy family like environment in which everyone is equal and free to discuss his opinion. Secondly, customers are on my priority list, we are at recent position just for the reason that we are being good at taking care of our customers, theyre like, dislikes and their needs. We cannot be reluctant from their expectations. They appreciate our new ideas and give us feedback which is helpful in making better our next upcoming product. We welcome our customers opinion, suggestions and comments. In the last but not the least shareholders come in my priority list. Taking in view this fact that a business alone cannot become successful if it does not have shareholders. So, we welcome them. Our main focus will be on healthy competition with our competitors. Set our goals and objectives, make teams, communicate with them and just go for it. Competitors are good in many ways as they push us towards our excellence in order to maintain our position in the market. So, we are thankful to our competitors which make us aware of what we are and push us to bring out the best in us. I hope we shall work as a unit and will have a good time working together.
