Extract of sample "Dealing with Offenders"

There are several ways of determining if a rehabilitated offender is safe to be back out in society. Psychiatric interviews are a useful tool of assessment and evaluation, especially for sex offenders.  It is unsafe to allow convicted felons to possess firearms. Indeed most federal and state laws prohibit convicted felons from legally owning firearms. Although such individuals may have rehabilitated and changed, they may be a potential threat to the public. There are many. Some of the advantages of releasing sex offender registries to the public include making the public aware of potential threats and therefore be prepared.

It also gives a sense of responsibility to the sex offenders since they know that they are under public scrutiny. Although this might provide some safety measures, it is unjust to properly rehabilitated persons since they have become just like the rest of the public. Additionally, sex offenders might face discrimination from their past behavior although they might be good persons. The laws have a limitation since they still hold the offenders as suspects although they were properly evaluated and found to be safe to the public (Robinson & Crow, 2009).
