Annual worldwide mortality due to hepatitis viral diseases is estimated to be between 500,000 to 700,000 (WHO, 2010), HCC being the 5th highest killer cancer in the world (Parkin, 2001). The hepatitis B virus is 50 to 100 times more infectious than human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and about 25% of the infected children would carry a chronic disease into adulthood and would die from hepatic cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma (Seeger and Mason, 2000). Figure 1 shows the geographical distribution of the HBV prevalence.
