The process of professional development can take many forms, including online classes and/or seminars, face-to-face classes, seminars, workshops, and more. However, professional development will also include continued reading, research, and education, to make sure that the leader stays current on policies, procedures, and new opportunities for client care. Professional development means that a leader hones any professional skills that are needed to keep them fresh and open to new ideas.When a leader continues their professional development, they are able to assist employees who want to develop their careers.

They also bring fresh ideas to meetings and provide innovative ideas at the right time to allow the organization to grow.In my situation, my continued professional development has allowed me to make better ethical decisions about how patients and families should be treated. I work for a religious nonprofit organization that has the same values that I have so my ethical behavior is easy to articulate. Because my ethical beliefs and my religion are similar to the organization's, I can more freely make decisions about how to handle employees, patients, and their families that automatically fall in line with the organization's values and religious beliefs.

Professional Development and the Vision StatementProfessional development in an organization must start with an understanding of its goals and objectives and with the reader's understanding of the vision statement. Luc (2009) suggests that a vision statement:1. Provides an image of the desired future.2. Appeals to both our aspirations and our needs.3. Represents a challenge that motivates a person or group to strive toward it.4. Aligns our personal and collective efforts5. Helps each team member understand to what he or she is contributing6.

Provides guidelines in decision-making (p. 105).When comparing this information to ethical professional development, it occurred to me that the vision statement is important to the organization to set the foundation for leaders to begin their understanding of why they need to continue their professional development.
