Peter Drucker introduced the first related term ‘Knowledge Worker’ in 1960. Over the years, there have been a number of improvements and growth in this field and there have been a number of different areas that have been covered by the authors which touch upon different aspects of the subject. There have been several theories which were developed to manage the intellectual capital in the 21st century. Graham and Thomas (2008) believed that KM is supported as a means of harnessing and utilizing intellectual resources to address challenges, as well as improving innovation, business performance and client approval. This paper aims at providing annotated bibliography for the topic of knowledge management. After careful selection, five articles have been found from the online library, and these have been discussed here in the paper. A common format has been used for summarizing the articles to be able to cover the major aspects of the paper. Article One: Title And Reference Of Article Karami, A., Rowley, J., & Analoui, F. (2006). Research and Knowledge Building in Management Studies: An Analysis of Methodological Preferences. International Journal of Management , 43 – 52. Type Of Article Research article - University of Wales, Bangor & University of Bradford, UK Aim Of Article The main aim of the article is to identify the nature of the methodology employed by top business and management journals and to analyse the aspects that are considered while creation of the management knowledge. Research Methodology This article has used a very different approach and completes its sampling from the various other management articles that have been presented in the past. Based on this, the following information: Sample: A hundred and twenty articles have been chosen from leading management journals between the periods of 1991 to 2000.Instrument: Secondary Data collection (Desk Study) Analysis: The analysis of the article focuses on the characteristics of the authorship and also focuses on the research methodology adopted by the sample articles. Findings The research findings clearly provides detailed explanation of the authorship profiles, where it has been found that majority of the contributors are senior academics and only as low as 6% of the total papers were actually by lecturers or assistant professors. The major contributors were the associate professors and the professors. The findings also find that majority of the authors were male with around 35% of the authors as female. Significance Of Article This research although not directly related to the topic, proves to be very helpful and impactful in the field of research as in knowledge management. This article helps the students and the readers identify with a various set of important aspects like the reliability, and validity of the articles. Limitations Of Article The limitation of this article clearly is the lack of direct explanation of the impact that this can have on the knowledge management and also the importance of reliability and validity of the research. Strength/s Of Article The article has been very well explained and very well presented. It is easy to read and also quite impactful as it keeps the reader completely interested to the article. There is use of simple clear and concise explanation which allows better overall understanding of the paper. Weakness Of Article There is clearly a lack of explanation in terms of the validity of the research. This forms the main weakness of the article. Type Of Article Review Article Aim Of Article This article is more informative and aims mostly on discussing aspects like organizational innovation, technology strategy, and the commercialization of new ideas. Research Methodology The article does not follow any clear structure like a research article. The focus is more on the literature and a discussion of the various aspects of knowledge management. The author touches upon various aspects of thinking and also focuses on providing the readers with a deep insight into various theories like The Myers Briggs Type, Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument and ways on achieving better creativity. Findings The author clearly finds that in a number of cases preferences cannot be described as good or bad and is completely dependent on the situation. Also, the author explains that the preferences come in the early stages and to a great extent stays on forever. Also, there is a difficulty in going against one’s own style, and finally, understanding the preferences of others helps in better communication and collaboration. Significance Of Article This article is very important in terms of the knowledge management process as it focuses on personal traits and behaviours which in turn help in better knowledge sharing within an organisation. Limitations Of Article The limitation of the article is too much focus on the theories and techniques like The Myers Briggs Type, Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument, with less focus on the impact these have on the organizations. This is a major limitation as the results and findings may not be very reliable and accurate for the case of organizations. Strength/s Of Article The main strength of the article is clear explanation and well laid out paper. Also, other aspects like the well explained examples also form a major strength of the paper. On the whole there is a clear explanation with excellent examples which makes the paper strong and beneficial to the readers. Weakness Of Article The lack of clear linking of the benefits to the companies directly is a major weakness for the article. Article Three: Title And Reference Of Article Noni, I. Type Of Article Research Article Aim Of Article The main aim of the article is to provide the managers with information relating to the new knowledge management approaches in Units Relationship Management. Also here the authors aim at refocusing the uncertain future and also the operational benefits which can be got from the refined and innovative models and techniques of maths which are in the current times applicable to modern organisations. Research Methodology The research method used here is one which is desk based. The authors have used literature to work on the paper and have been able to derive the results based on through review of literature and use of old and proven theories and techniques which have proved to be very beneficial for the companies. Findings The author has very effectively explained, “In traditional perceptions of the role of knowledge management in business organizations, we often encounter an emphasis on the learning organization and other approaches that stress on the internalization of information and generation of new knowledge through managed interaction. Organizations compete on the basis of knowledge” (Noni, Orsi, & Pilotti, 2009). The main findings of the research include, that implementation of the knowledge management requires a number of innovative tools and techniques. The authors explain that the above approach provides the managers to be able to make more informed and better decision making as well. Significance Of Article The article has a high level of significance in the field of knowledge management. The authors have touched upon various aspects of knowledge management and also focus on areas Latent Errors, Vulnerability and Implosion of Control. The technical aspects of the paper help in providing a major deal to the literature and also the article is a major contribution in the overall Limitations Of Article The main limitation of the paper is the focus on the technical aspects of the concept. This leads the article to be overly technical and also leads the paper to be relatively difficult to read. Also, with the high number of areas that have been covered and little no basic information being provided, this article is a little difficult for readers to follow effectively. Strength/s Of Article The major strength of the paper is the availability of detailed explanation. The authors have very efficiently included various aspects of the topic and made a complete paper which touches upon a number of different areas of the topic. The strength of the article is that the authors have been able to effectively build a paper including so many different areas of the topic and yet keep the paper within the main aims and objectives very effectively. Weakness Of Article One of the main weaknesses of the article, considering from the view point of a reader is that the article lacks a clear flow and also proper structuring. Unlike other articles, this paper is relatively less structured and also is not clear and concise for the readers. Relatively speaking this article is difficult to read and follow and although there are a number of nice points in the article there is a chance to miss out on the points due to the complexity in reading the paper. Type Of Article Periodical Aim Of Article As the title suggests the main aim of this article is to identify the application of knowledge management in customer relationship management. The authors have touched upon how integrating knowledge management with the customer relationship management can help in development of knowledge-enabled CRM processes which allow companies to identify the business processes more successful based on customer satisfaction, customer profitability, or customer loyalty Research Methodology The research methodology used here is based more on literatures and secondary research. The paper has been developed on a strong foundation of literature based on which the authors have identified and explained the importance of the integration of knowledge management on customer relationship management. Findings The research clearly brings out the positive aspects of combining the two, i.e. knowledge management and customer relationship management. It has been clearly found in the research that the combined efforts allows the companies to more effectively identify the needs of the customers and also to provide the customers with products and services, “based on what the marketers know about their customers, rather than on a mass generalization of the characteristics of customers” (Bose & Sugumaran, 2003). Significance Of Article The significance of this article is very high as it deals with two main concepts of the business world. Firstly in the current times most focus has been on the customer relationship management and knowledge management to help ensure that customers are provided with the best at any given point in time. Hence when the article deals with this topic, it is very beneficial to the entire research as it allows more focused attention to the area of the study. Limitations Of Article A limitation of this article is that it is a much generalised view and does not provide a focused view to one area or industry. This can lead to biased results. Also, there is a possibility that the research findings may not apply to all industries. Strength/s Of Article The paper uncovers some excellent points pertaining knowledge management and customer relationship management as well. There is clearly a focused attention on the foundations of the two concepts which allow better understanding of how these can be integrated. Weakness Of Article The main weakness of the article is the lack of focus on a particular industry or area. Including this would have helped in better overall response and findings of the article. Also, another weakness of this article is that in a few sections there is a overload of information which can be difficult for readers at times. Article Five: Title And Reference Of Article Yli-Renko, H., Autio, E., & Sapienza, H. J. (2001). Social Capital, Knowledge Acquisition, And Knowledge Exploitation In Young Technology-Based Firms. Strategic Management Journal , 587, 27 Type Of Article Article Aim Of Article The main aim of this paper is to identify the relationship between a young firm and the largest customer, i.e. the customer that accounts for highest level of sales for the company. The authors aim at identifying how the knowledge acquisition, and exploitation is possible in the young technology based firms. Research Methodology The research has been based on 180 entrepreneurial high-technology ventures based in the United Kingdom. The research method used here was a survey. The companies have been chosen based on three main sample conditions, i.e., the firms are at least one year old and less than ten years old, the firms are independent and have no subsidiaries, and finally, involved in developing, commercializing, or manufacturing advanced technology in one of five industry sectors. The authors have used a regression analysis on the survey data, including a wide range of tests like measurement model, and nested model tests. Findings The research findings clearly show that the social interaction and the social capital are related and clearly associated with the knowledge acquisition. Also it has been noted that relationship quality dimension is negatively associated with the knowledge acquisition. However the knowledge acquisition is positively related to the exploitation of knowledge and this is mainly through competitive advantage, new product development and also cost efficiency of sales. It has also been noted that the knowledge acquisition plays the role of a mediator between the social capital and also knowledge exploitation. Significance Of Article The article is very essential as the findings from here contribute to the social capital and knowledge based research in a number of manners. The study helps in improving the literature relating knowledge acquisition and social capital and also focuses on concepts that relate to value creation and value integration which have a major role in the current work situations. Limitations Of Article The major limitations of the research, as also identified by the authors is the possibility of the data not suiting all industries as the focus has been on the five industry sectors. This can lead to the results not fitting other sectors and segments of business. Strength/s Of Article The main strengths of this article include the focus of the paper on the five industry sectors which can help in more focused attention on the area of research as well as provides a definite response on the social capital and knowledge acquisition. On the whole the article has a number of strengths as it is very well written with a high amount of attention to detail. Weakness Of Article The main weakness of this article is that the authors have provided a very high level of limitations. Although it is good that the limitations are known and are clear, this can be recognised to be a weakness as it steals focus and highlights the missing aspects of the paper.
