The work done by this organization has empowered women in America and across the world. A successful organization implemented to promote women’s health is the state policy on reproductive rights and health. Question 2: The health and well being of women is a factor that has improved over the years. The feminist movement of the 1970s increased the participation of women in the workplace. As a consequence women nowadays suffer from more work-related diseases than in the past. One of these diseases is hypertension.

Hypertension is a major risk factor for heart disease. Today’s women are expected to have a job while at the same time raising a family. African-American women are more susceptible to catching hypertension than women of other races. HIV/AIDS is an epidemic that affects the women population. The symptoms associated with this disease are not as clear cut in women which makes it harder to diagnose the disease than in men. The racial profile of women is a factor that determines the risk of catching the disease.

In 2005 among the HIV/AIDS women population 64% were black, 19% white, 15% Hispanic, and 1% Asian (Textbook, year). The health of women has been adversely affected by the working condition of many factories due to poor environmental conditions. Addiction to drugs has risen since the 1970s among women which have negatively impacted the well being and health of women. One of the problems is that society is not properly recognizing the existence of the problem. There are fewer drug treatment programs for women than for men (Textbook, year).

Back in the 1970s their ignorance about the causes and symptoms of mental illness. Lesbianism in the 1970s was considered a mental illness. The mental health profession has improved its ability to diagnose the mental factors affecting women's health equilibrium. The life expectancy of women surpasses the life expectance of men by 5 years. The average woman in the United States lives to be 80 years of age. An economic problem women are facing today is a lack of adequate medical insurance coverage.
