Ethical dilemma as defined by Wikipedia is: a complex situation that will often involve an apparent mental conflict between moral imperatives, in which to obey one would result in transgressing another. One of the most difficult trials faced at work place are ethical and moral dilemmas. Since the future is not known to anyone therefore high uncertainty is involved in making decisions while facing moral dilemmas.
However, choosing between the two options it is imperative that others should be protected from serious harm. Any conflicting situation may be a result of self imposed or world imposed or prohibition dilemma. In self-imposed dilemmas one has to make a choice because of oneself. World imposed dilemmas are forced from the outside. Ethical dilemmas require choices but in some moral dilemmas one must choose whether to disobey a particular prohibition which if obeyed would result in making a person morally responsible.
Attention to business ethics is essential during times of change as now the values of an organization are questioned and not left unnoticed. Ethics help maintain a moral course but the gleam of profit prevails as generally the goals of an organization are profit oriented. I read an article about Nestlé’s ethical dilemmas by Tau Lawrence; the title was “Ethical Dilemma in Todays Business”. This article relates an ethical dilemma. Nestle is one the world’s largest food companies. However, this company has had many controversies and has faced several ethical dilemmas.
Nestle faced the challenge of weak business decisions, and the public reactions were negative. During 1977 Nestle started facing various controversies.
