Extract of sample "The Salesmanship"

Salesmanship is all about product quality, packaging, advertising and presentation, with the goal in mind to close a deal. Having been given the task to discuss a specific topic to help us sell our ideas is a very advantageous experience for us, because the exercise can teach us the proper way of promoting an idea and at the same time, help us learn to gain confidence in ourselves when we would be required to face our target audience. The basic objective of this report is for us to review, evaluate, compare and analyze the performance of the other two groups, as well as our group, and with proper observation, we should be able to determine their good points and offer constructive comments about the part that we deem would need improvement. Our group was assigned the topic of Customer Care. The members were Fares Al- Naami,Ali Guhfli, Mohamed Echtibi, Issam Dalati, Ahmad al aomar. Our three good points were first, our effective power point slide show presentation that went well with our topic; second, our introduction was attention-getter even though it was brief, and third, the write-up that we had distributed was relevant to the information we presented. However, we have to admit that we have to improve in some issues, like team preparation. We displayed poor teamwork. We were obvious in relying on our personal notes, that we appeared less prepared and we missed employing the proper eye contact with the audience and the use of body language was almost totally missed because we were more preoccupied with our notes. On the process, we were not effective in the interaction aspect, and for a while, lost our contact with the audience because we were not able to hold their attention. Without waiting for anyone to suggest to us, we acknowledge the need for our group to research more, spend time with the other members in reviewing our presentation over and over again and aim for more quality in our work. We could have rehearsed and prepared a list of possible questions that the audience would be expected to ask. The second group, composed of Martin Kredba, Selcuk Ugur, Refik Iyiuyarlar, Cuong Khuat, and Tomas Vagasky, was given the topic Interactive Marketing. The only good points worth mentioning about their group was their presentable physical attributes which were quite impressive. They looked so formal, as if they really meant business. And next, they were able to adhere to the time element allotted for each group. Regretfully, other than these two, we cannot pinpoint anything else that could be considered as an additional positive aspect in their presentation. On the contrary, we can mention more features that need improvement against positive feedback. Not one of the members of the second group was able to discuss their topic with coherence, because they all depended on their notes. It seemed, that in the absence of their notes, they would have wondered among themselves what they were doing in front. Moreover, it was evident that they did exert more effort in doing more research. Ironically, their topic was Interactive Marketing, yet they were not able to invite active audience interaction, because their voices could hardly be heard, especially at the rear part of the room. Sad to say, they did not offer a conclusion at the end of their presentation. If we may be allowed to recommend, they could potentially improve on their presentation with more thorough research and preparation. The worst thing that can happen for anyone or any group for that matter, is when there is no preparation. They should be made to understand the importance and significance of the activity and make the members really interested in the presentation in order for them to go to the lengths of providing a well-researched body with a relevant conclusion. The third group was tasked to discuss the topic of Packaging. The members of the third group were Joanne Crowther, Daniel Reeves, Caroline Brackenbury, Dan Taylor, and Andrew Curivan. I was so impressed with their style in presentation. They exhibited innovativeness, by offering treats to the audience who can respond to their questions, which encouraged more participation. The data they presented were effectively supported by video show. Their group was well prepared with the way they showed how important packaging is in promoting one’s products and services and they even brought actual samples of packaged goods for the audience to touch. The content of their seminar was considered as perfect by some of the audience. However, some salient points need to be evaluated in order for them to be able to do better in the future, perhaps more than perfect. The other members appeared to be tensed, as shown by their body language, or the lack of it. They also relied so much on their notes, and like the flaw of our group, some of them exuded nervousness, thus, body language was not employed effectively. There were times when they talked so fast because they were just reading from their notes. There were numerous remarks about the fact that their power point slide shows contained so many sentences, which did not lend any excitement at all to the presentation. It could have been better if they had employed more eye contact, as it depicts seriousness in their task at hand and thus, they could have appeared to be more convincing. They should do away with their notes, but to be able to do this, they should master the content of their seminar. There are many ways to make a power point presentation appear more interesting. They could have played more with vivid colors and images, and there are more exciting ways to move from one slide to the next, which the audience would usually appreciate. If I am to grade all the three groups, it is only fair and reasonable to judge the group with the topic of Packaging to get the highest mark, because their positive attributes in the way they handled their seminar, far outweighed the negative aspects. In contrast to the Interactive Marketing group, their failures to make their presentation to be effective, outnumbered the good points, therefore, it is only fitting, that their grade is the lowest among the three groups. Our flaws and good points balanced out, hence, the grade given to us was acceptable. I can conclude that I have learned valuable lessons in this exercise of evaluating the other groups as well as ours. In the first place, having been given the opportunity to present to an audience already helped me quell my stage freight. Inasmuch as we were required to analyze the performance of other groups, it pressured us to be more alert and to be more intense in our observation and listening skills. It was evident that there was cooperation within the three groups, in their desire to be helpful to each other. I believe that the best way to instill positive changes and to encourage more improvement, is to offer constructive criticisms. Nobody should be so smug as to reject comments from others, because as the common saying goes, nobody is perfect. And yet, there is no reason for anyone to stop himself from aspiring for perfection, because this is the only way to the road of self-improvement.
