He opines that government in the hands of liberals is a dangerous tool, whereby the liberals will try to maintain maximum control over the lives and freedom of the Americans. Therefore, it would do well for the conservatives to fight back using the tactics employed by the liberals to win over the youth of America. Mattera is qualified to make his argument only insofar as it relates to people of his own age bracket. He is a 29 year old and, therefore, comes from the same age bracket as the “Generation Y” (Mattera 10), as he refers to young people of his own age.

Admittedly, he has appeared on a few shows to discuss matters similar to those he wrote in the book, however, he does not have much credibility as an economic or political pundit/guru, which he tries to be via this book. Other than the fact that he is good at researching material to make his point, he does not come out as an intellectual who can actually weigh in on the matter. A good researcher does not a good political guru make, as perhaps Mattera would himself put it. ( Citations?) That being said, Mattera’s use of pathos is evident throughout his book; he uses it to get his readers to stop voting for liberals and/or their policies.

He constantly conjures up images that bring out a feeling of pride in his fellow Americans. He mentions the past accomplishments of the US that fill the reader with pride, for instance he mentions the Boston Tea Party (Mattera 14) to get his readers to react strongly against the proposed tax that the liberal government will be putting in place. Further, he talks about the present Health-Care system in America to be the “Greatest” (Mattera 102), and berating Obama for making America sound like just “any other country” (Mattera 74).

The readers of Mattera’s books are in effect reminded of the greatness of their country and to feel proud of it, all the while feeling that liberals actually would take away that
