“It is clear that heavy exposure to media violence causes an increase in the likelihood of future aggressive and violent behavior” (Chaves, 2008 p. 148). It is a scientific concept that media is not the only cause of aggressive behaviors and violence however, it is proved that heavy exposure to media violence increases the chance of future aggressive and violent behaviors.
According to the American Psychological Association, watching and playing violent scenes on games and television, can desensitize children to the misery and suffering of others and may be a greater risk of acting aggressively toward others and they're less bothered by violence in general and less likely to see anything wrong with it.
According to these researches, more children and youth are spending more time playing video games and watching violent television programs compared to the past (Hartnagel, P. 351). Therefore, violent video games and television programs exposure have been associated with child aggression, not only according to researches but also in the opinion of many parents and guardians.
Violence on Television Increases Violence in Children In Little Colorado, two armed teenagers with semiautomatic weapons and explosives first killed 13 people at Columbine High school on April 20, 1999 and then took their own lives.
