A study of the elderly victim of sexual abuse” Purpose ment: In 1996, The National Elder Abuse Incidence Study (NEAIS) revealed that approximately 449,924 people of age 60 and above are victimized by sexual abuse or mistreated in their family life (National Center on Elder Abuse, 1998). 16 percent of these incidences are reported to or handled by adult protective services (APS) (National Center on Elder Abuse, 1998). This clarifies the fact that such agencies show the records of only evident incidences of sexual abuse and mistreatments.
A considerable number of such incidences remain unrecorded and unknown. Hence, it is evident that elderly sexual abuse and mistreatment cases are of paramount importance for the society and research from a number of large and small organizations must be incorporated in one research paper to properly analyze the situation. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and evaluate the current trends of elderly sexual abuse and its effects on the US population. Goals & Objectives:The study of elderly sexual abuse and its effects produced an urge to conduct a research on the causes, effects and situational analysis of such incidences.
The aims of this paper are hence to cover a number of topics related to it. The research questions that are answered in this paper are as follows: Are the current trends of elderly sexual abuse in the US getting better? What are the effects of such cases on physical, psychological and social wellbeing of the US population? What is the Government doing to reduce such cases and for the welfare of victimized elderly population? The goal of this paper is to incorporate as many researches as possible to support the claim that elderly sexual abuse is harming the society terribly.
This paper has an objective to expose the statistics related to elderly sexual abuse cases and the effects of it on people. The harms of such incidences remain for longer periods and damage the social, psychological and physical health of victims. The study is basically prepared to analyze the situation from the victims’ perspective. The research area in question covers a wide range of topics that may be looked into. Hence it was difficult to carefully select from that list of topics. Once selected, in order to answer the research questions, it was difficult to find ample statistics.
Most of the sexual assault cases are not reported by the elderly victims due to fear, harassment, hesitation and humiliation. It was not possible to conduct a survey for individual study on the victims. The victims are not usually responsive and open to the questions that are being asked on such incidences. Moreover, it required a lot of time to get data from such victims across the country. The research questions are, hence, designed to incorporate and evaluate the existing information. The unavailability of much data online was another big hurdle and made it too time consuming.
In addition, different studies involved one or more claims to be proved, hence, it became difficult to gather data from a wide range of studies that would help answering the particular questions chosen.Research questions are important to be designed for a valid outcome of any research study. The questions that are designed to achieve a particular task must be focused on the outcomes. Research questions are required to be unbiased in all manners. Biased questions or disgracing elements in any question may bring negative replies and further negative impacts on the participants.
The construction of research questions require a lot of time. The questions should be valid in terms of the research purpose. The whole research may fail if the research questions are constructed with a flawed idea. The research questions must be constructed in a way that the participants’ personal behaviour does not affect the results. The behaviour of participants or their conscious nature may affect the results of the research. However, if the study contains a review of the existing literature the research must not be affected by personal views and beliefs.
The questions must be designed to provide the audience with completely unbiased and original information.Bibliography:National Center on Elder Abuse (1998) Attitudes Toward Elder Mistreatment and Reporting: A Multicultural Study. Washington DC: National Center on Elder Abuse.
