I have taken this decision after much deliberation and have done a lot of research before deciding to apply to your institute. I have come to this decision not only because the course work in this programme is innovative and new, but also because the programme will grant me an insight into what the future of textile designing and fashion markets holds. I have gone through the course outline and have come to the conclusion that the courses offered and the way in which they are organised and conducted, would benefit me immensely if I am to make a name in the field of textile designing.

The skills that I will be taught through this MA programme, including the innovation taught in your course work and the personal master project I will be required to develop, would be of immense value to me once I enter the professional field of textile designing. This would not only enable me to realise my true capabilities as a textile designer, but the team projects would also make it possible for me to better my interpersonal and communicational skills. By working on these required team projects I would be able to better both my management and team working skills.

These are all very valued skills in the field of textile designing, and I feel the programme at your institute would help me a great deal in this regard as well. Moreover, the professional links that I will make during this time would be an asset. I know that if enrolled in this programme I will be given the opportunity to be taught by, and work with, people who have already put their mark in the industry. This would be an immensely valuable experience, as I would be learning from the professionals; working towards a better work ethic along establishing contacts that would be useful to me in the future.

Another factor that made me decide on this course was the location of your campus. It would be very easy, not to mention convenient, for me to attend classes at an institute that is so close to my home. But of course, this factor did not play a key role when choosing an MA programme, though it is nonetheless one of the things that add the charm of this course in my eyes.I would be very much interested in learning more about the multidisciplinary approach that the programme requires its students to participate in.

I have primarily worked in textile designing solely and would now like to take the opportunity to explore other disciplines that can enhance the skills that I have so far acquired. My primary interest is in designing and this is where I would like to focus. Albeit I have worked mostly with textiles only, all the same I am quite attracted to the idea of “hybrid” design practices that your course statement says I will be involved in if I am enrolled in the programme. As stated before, I have completed a three years Bachelor’s degree in Textile Design from (write the name of the institute you did your BA from).

I am a hardworking student and am quite adept at learning new techniques as well as being open to new advances and ideas in the field of designing. I can use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrate to design patterns and am also open to any new technology that can help me better my skills. I was also awarded the third prize in Woven Textiles, for the first year, at the Bradford Textile Competition 2007. Through this course, I wish to achieve a better understanding of the field of textile designing and an insight into how to make room for other disciplines to fit alongside it.

I want to experiment with new methods and explore new vistas; this would help me in perfecting my already learnt techniques and to expand my portfolio so that I do not end up getting mired in one set discipline, without any experimentation, thus never challenging myself. I want to come out of this course with more in-depth knowledge about textile designing and its future. I want to discover my own capabilities and just how far I can make it on my own and when and where I need to collaborate, as well as how to work with others.

I would be setting up challenges for myself and seeing how far I can meet and overcome them. Hence, my professional and personal growth would be fostered side by side.I want to improve my design portfolio and update it with innovative and creative ideas, something that I feel would be achieved if I am given the chance to attend the programme at your institute, as I feel I have a lot to learn from this programme and I am open to new ideas and new techniques to help build on my already learnt theory and practice.
