Letter to the King of Morocco - Essay Example

My sojourn in a foreign country has dawned on me a realization that as your subject and a citizen of Morocco, I must do more for my King. I was born in (Morocco???) but immigrated to Sweden in (place year). 

After graduation, I worked in the Department of Integration at the City of Sundsvall as a Project Manager on a six (6) month project co-financed by the European Union and the city. The objective of the project was to determine the level to which immigrants have integrated into Swedish society. The study primarily focused especially on Muslim immigrants. The project also sought ways and avenues to promote and encourage more immigrants to willingly integrate into their host societies. Whilst in Sweden, I have maintained good contacts in Morocco and in (name of city), the city where I live in Sweden.

My experience coupled with my desire to serve my country is the reason why I contacted the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Stockholm. As an active member of the Swedish Social Democratic Party, one of the most influential political organizations in Sweden, I am aware of the actions and unchecked determinations of a separatist group Polisario, which is very active in Sweden. It is no secret that Polisario and its members have canvassed and received both financial and other forms of support from Swedes who sympathize with them.

Polisario has convinced a majority of Swedes that their actions and agenda are for the benefit of the Moroccan people. In doing so, organizations like Polisario have succeeded in ‘branding’ the Kingdom of Morocco as not being a democratic and popular country, and in so damaged the reputation of Morocco. Your Majesty, it is my opinion that the Embassy of Morocco has not successfully articulated or defended your policies or Morocco’s reputation. As a direct consequence, Moroccan diplomats are not well received by the members of the Swedish Parliament.

The Kingdom of Morocco should not only seek a great relationship with the United States of America and France. Of equal importance are countries like Sweden and the people of Morocco need to elevate our engagement with Stockholm. It is also my humble opinion that the Kingdom of Morocco is not taking advantage of its well-earned and undeniable international stature in European and especially Scandinavian nations. Compared to other countries with similar demographics, Morocco is not attracting a sizeable number of tourists from Western European countries, and thus not benefitting from the socio-economic opportunities these interactions present.

The potential tourism market in the Scandinavian countries is estimated at Three (3) million tourists, with the bulk choosing to visit Turkey and Egypt. Not surprisingly, this is so because of an aggressive marketing campaign by these nations in Europe, including here in Sweden. It is no secret that many Scandinavians have very little knowledge about Morocco, and those who know, sadly only identify propaganda issues raised by unpatriotic groups like Polisario. I believe the time is ripe for Morocco to be well-represented in the Swedish community.
