SAMPLE KNOWLEDGE AREA MODULE SBSF 0003 Professional Practice, Education and Freedom in American LEARNING AGREEMENT Depth Objective From a highly conservative framework women are able to attain higher levels of acceptability either in academics, research or in professional domain. The research is with an objective to explore the reasons that have stimulated women to attain these levels. The theories that exist on the elimination of the barrier in the career progression of women are many. The reasons proposed in all these theories don’t find it acceptable to all the situations.

Hence, another aim of this research is to compare these theories and find the most acceptable reason for the progression of women in education and career in America. Also, it is intended to bring out the sociological factors involved in the female progression based on the freedom enjoyed in the American education. ReferencesDoherty, L and Manfredi, S (2006), Women’s progression to senior positions in English universities., Employee Relations, (28)6 : 553 - 572Gould, G H (1988), Old wine in new bottle, A feminist perspective of Gilligans Theory, Social work, 35 : 411-415.Pratt, M.W.

(1998) Guardianship over women in medieval flanders - A reappraisal, Journal of social history, 897-930Wolfinger, N.H., Rabow, J and Newcomb, M.D.The different voices of helping : gender differences in recounting dilemmas, Gender issues, 70-86DemonstrationFrom the time the first female doctor entered the profession in 1849 to the present day women have virtually turned out to be competent to handle all the professions without any gender disparity.

Women from the earlier limited role of the wife and mother , thinks much beyond to take up multiple tasks be it in the academics, profession or in personal life. The extend of freedom and education enjoyed by the women have helped them to think to higher levels of profession and educational development. The reason for the higher levels of motivation exhibited by this group is the subject of intense study. Huge volume of literature is available on the issues related to the moral decision making made by women in comparison with the male counterparts.

The prime reason for the difference in the personality structure is proposed to be due to the distinct paths of moral development that exist for both male and females (Gould, 1998). It is also said that the responsibility mode of thought is dominant in the case of most of decision making situation for women. The research undertaken to assess the career progression of women in employment have also revealed interesting facts. The study was undertaken to evaluate he possible barriers that would retard the progression of women in diverse domains.

The samples were identified in four universities and using s specified set of semi-structured interviews for the data collection. The analysis reveals that the women could easily sail through the initial levels but beyond a certain level their career growth gets retarded (Doherty and Manfredi, 2006). Further, it is also observed from the research that those having self- concepts with inclinations for strong relationship tend to move in the direction as observed in the case females and it is not gender specific.

This further widens the research scope to identify the key criteria that have forced the women turn highly ambitious.
