Extract of sample "A Duality to Virtue"

Meno: “Can you tell me, Socrates, whether virtue is acquired by teaching or by practice; or if neither by teaching nor practice, then whether it comes to man by nature, or in what another way?” There is a duality to virtue. In some manner, virtue is innate, it separates the man from the beast. Others argue however that virtue can only be taught. I think that virtue is something that develops as I myself develop. Like any other lesson, virtue is developed as a result of my heritage, my culture, and my own life experiences.

I, unlike Meno, feel that virtue is not something that is obtained and one’s virtue cannot be measured by the perceived virtue of another man.
