Management Methods Change Management Methods (Change management methods and the implementation issues involved in organizational change) ManagementMethods 2 Management methods are changed drastically in the modern century. Globalization and Liberalization opened doors for multinational companies to different countries and they were forced to change their management techniques based on the requirement of current world. Business strategies and implementation also changed a lot. Marketing strategies has changed from simply capturing a job to relationship building. The autocrat approaches of managers gave way to democratic approaches. More and more scientific methods implemented in the employee organization relationships. When an organization changes its overall strategy for success, adds or removes a major section or practice. It also occurs when an organization evolves through various life cycles, just like people must successfully evolve through life cycles. “For organizations to develop, they often must undergo significant change at various points in their development. Thats why the topic of organizational change and development has become widespread in communications about business, organizations, leadership and management” (Organizational Change and Development). There are different types of organizational change, including planned and unplanned, Wide and partial changes of the organization, slow and gradual change, fundamental changes, etc.. Organization-wide change in corporations should involve the Board of Directors. Whether their members are closely involved in the change or not, they should at least be aware of the change project and monitor if the results are being achieved or not. Changes in management can be divided into two categories. One is based on individual change while the other is based on the organization. Normally the organizations won’t change. But the individuals can change. A large project usually associated with lot of individuals. The Management Methods 3 success of the project depends on the collective efforts of the employees. Even one employee’s negligence can spoil a large project. The individual change management principle lies in the understanding and appreciation of how one person makes a change. I know a person who is working in a tire manufacturing company as a tire builder. Though this fellow don’t have much education he has found out a new way to make use of the scrap rubber materials in the tire manufacturing unit. The company has promoted him as a manger and now he is working on scraps to make it again useful to the company. The new methodology adopted by this fellow has been properly rewarded by the company both of them have mutual benefits. Individual ideas always will lead us to conclusions of complex questions. Employee’s nature and the way he choose to work have significant impact on his organization, whether he knows it or not. He cannot separate himself from his organization. He should quickly adapt himself to the requirements of the organization. It is critical that the employee should have a good understanding of himself , including his biases, how he manage feedback and conflict, how he like to make decisions and solve problems, how he visualize the organizations, etc Successful organizational change can be quite difficult to accomplish. The organizational change management means the change in management of the organization as a whole. Effective communications and training can bring the whole organizational change. The organizational change management involves a lot of complicated processes. The project managers and the business leaders should develop proper methods of training to cater the needs of all the employees working in the organization. There are companies which were sick units earlier became profitable organizations under the guidance of new management. Effective leaders will identify the root causes of the organization and they will find out solutions for it. Management Methods 4 The first step in managing any type of organizational change is, understanding how to manage change with a single individual. In short, to make a change successfully an individual needs: Awareness of the need for change, Desire to participate and support the change, Knowledge on how to change, Ability to implement required skills and behaviors, Reinforcement to sustain the change. When an organization try to implement the change the employees must have a positive attitude towards it. They should feel that they have the required awareness, desire, knowledge, and ability to enforce the change. This attitude is essential for planning and operation of change management activities, diagnosing gaps, implementing corrective measures, supporting the superiors. The change management process involves preparation of the change, management of change and reinforcing the change. In the first step the management should decide how much change is required both qualitatively and quantitatively. The general situation of the company should be analyzed deeply before going for the change. The parameters which need change also should be assessed. This includes the change in company profile characteristics, change in organizational parameters, change in management and team strategy etc. The second step is managing the changes implemented. This is accomplished by controlling the variables like, training, coaching, communication, and also the possible resistance from all sectors anticipated. The most important phase of change management process is the reinforcement stage. In this stage the change management team develops measures and mechanisms to implement the change. In this stage the team should notice the employees behavior while adapting to the change and they should ensure that the employees following the change properly. They should guide the employees to understand the changes and also should help them to execute the change. They Management Methods 5 should also ensure that the employees developing positive attitude towards the change. The ultimate success of the organizational change always lies on the shoulders of the employees. Leaders and managers continually make efforts to accomplish successful and significant change. Some are very good at this effort while others continually struggle and fail. It is very difficult for some of the old managers to adjust with the organizational changes. For example total computerisation of all departments sometimes causes problems to old managers who are not aware of the new systems and software. The old traditional management style will be questioned by the new technology savvy managers which will create problems for the old mangers. It is concluded that the individual change management and the organizational change management are linked together. In order to succeed in organizational change management the individuals or the employees should change themselves to the requirement of the new organizational changes. For the success of the organization these two change management mechanisms should work together. The top management should carefully monitor the change mechanisms and they should keep an eye on it until it stabilizes.   Management Methods 6 Sources 1.
