Business Management and Leadership – Defining the Manager (U1IP) Hiring a Manager within the Services Division A list of five to ten questions that you will use during the interview process that go beyond the information you can gain from the candidates application or resume. These should give you insight into why the candidate can fulfill the requirements outlined by the HR manager1. Why did you choose to apply for this particular position?2. Why were you interested in applying with our company?3. How will your strengths contribute to goals of this organization?4. Describe a time when you had to function in a team role.

What part did you play and what was the outcome?5. Where do you see yourself five years from now? What will you pursue next if you are not offered this position?6. Describe a challenging situation you have encountered in the workplace. How did you deal with it and what was the outcome?7. What computer programs are you familiar with that directly relate to the position?8. How do you go about building new relationships in the workplace?9. What types of skills would you like to gain in the future that will aid you in this position?10. Is there an achievement that you have accomplished of which you are particularly grateful?

If so, what is it and how can it apply to the position?(JobInterviewQuestions.org, 2008)A description of the types of characteristics and experience that you will look for in the candidate. Be specific, include the various management functions and roles that this individual must have experience with as well as the skills they must possess to be effective. The director has already stated that the person needs to be able to ‘take charge, organize things, and get people motivated and working again.
