Athlete - Music Concert in Dallas, Texas - Essay Example

Lively, Ecstatic, and Exhilarating are the words I can describe the Athlete concert that took place in the gigantic arena center in Dallas, Texas. Walking up to the door of the rock concert to hand the doorman my tickets and identification, he marks my hands with X's to verify that I am under 21 since there is a restaurant/bar located near the concert stage. My accompanying friend, Chris, gets a wristband verifying that he is older than 21. Near the stage where Athlete's helpers are setting up the stage with all of their instruments and power chords, a group of police officers nearby are regulating many college students to make sure they have their IDs for alcoholic beverages and to prevent any theft of sales merchandise at the concert.

After we pass the security guards, we head up the ramps to our section of seats. As we are walking, I notice many different people that are present at this concert. Most people look like they are between their teen years and their late twenties. Walking along the hallway, the population seems like there are only a few groups of people, but as I enter the stadium for the first time, there seem to be hundreds upon hundreds of people. I look around the entire arena in awe as we climb the stairs to our seats.

Suddenly, the lights turn off, spotlights flash, and loud applause arises from Athlete's fans right near the stage. A wall of sound comes closer and closer, thundering up toward the front. Some bandmates come out from backstage, and the whole crowd stands up, yelling, screaming, and hollering. All of the cheers seem almost deafening. I start screaming at the top of my lungs, jumping up and down, with a huge smile on my face. Although the main concert is geared towards athletes, another alternative music group that is attempting to make it big in the music industry starts the night off with a few punk rock songs. Although their style and energy are strong, they did get a few boos from the audience because they sounded and looked like outsiders compared to the famous Athletes' band.

Athletes' band members emphasize that their lyrics reflect openness and honesty about themselves and real-life experiences. Along with the lyrics, they say their songs are about enjoying life even though they are constantly on tour, doing amazing things, but missing people and trying to find a way to deepen past friendships by keeping them going strong. Spontaneously, the audience yells and cheers very loudly so you could barely hear Athlete's band members finish their speech. Nonetheless, Athlete immediately takes us into their next song "Wires" which is a song reflecting a distressing experience combined with guitar strumming and bass.

Moreover, as if they saved the best for last, my favorite song "You got Style" begins to play! Almost everyone in the arena stands up for this song singing the lyrics; this is not surprising since it was the most popular song reaching the Top 40 in the United States a few years ago. I soon notice that almost everyone in the arena is a teenager or in their early 20s. Absolutely no one in the arena looks like they could be older than 25. This suggests that Athlete attempts to target their music for the older teen generation because they feel that they can relate more to us since we are around their age. Midway through the song "You got Style", the fog machine begins cranking out clouds working their way over us, obscuring the band from our view.

Compared to their last album Animals & Vehicles which incorporated a sufficient about of pop in the album, Athletes yearned to try something new by connecting more with their audience as they successfully did by recording their album, the Tourist. Athlete adequately proved their identity through rock music by integrating their real-life experiences into each song.
