Book Review A lot disorders and disabilities are plaguing the human race. Regardless of age, there are a lot of things that deprive men and womento live a normal life. Men and women alike are having difficulties in dealing with different disabilities, which make life complicated. Though most of us are not experiencing such a fate, accounts from loved ones or from people who have these kinds of disorders are enough for us to analyze the pains and the things that they experience. Certainly, most of us would wish not to have what most of these people experience. There are a lot of things and factors that causes these things to occur. There are hereditary accounts and in the same way, there are factors caused by the activities of man. Upon analyzing this, we might agree that studies concerning these disabilities are a must for us to at any rate prevent these happenings. For most of us who do not have disorders, hearing stories from those people who have these things are painful enough to describe what they are going through-How much more for those people who have these disorders, maybe, the pain is around 10 times as painful as we picture out. However, these things are just a tip of the iceberg if we are to deal with disorders. What is more painful for most of the parents is to know that his/her child/children do have such a disorder that affects their daily activity. One might say that they do not want their children to suffer. If only they could turn the table, then, it is better for them to carry the burden of their children and would wish that they should have the disorder rather than their sons or daughters. Book Review 2 In the book entitled, “When Your Child Has a Disability” written by the Chair of Academic Medicine and Chief Academic Officer at the Childrens National Medical Center, the Director of the Childrens Research Institute, and a Professor and Chairman of Pediatrics at George Washington University School of Medicine in the person of Mark L. Batsaw M.D., it was emphasized that aside from the children who have disorders, it is the parents, who has the big responsibility and pain absorber of these children. This book focuses on the disorders that children encounters whether it was brought by the way they were born (pre mature) or the things and factors that causes them to suffer such a fate. In this kind of scenario, parents must be prepared and strong enough to meet the demands of these kinds of children. It is obvious that these children do have special needs and therefore extra efforts of parents are expected. There are things that make life more complicated with this kind of children. The book focuses on how the parents should handle things that are needed for them to attend the needs of these children. The book also stresses that the parents above anyone else should be the first one to attend the needs of their children. They should also be the first one to know what is happening to their children. In this way, it would be assured that the children would be taken cared of and the children would have a bright future despite having problems concerning their health. Book Review 3 The book covers four major areas- Getting the Diagnosis, Growing Up with a Disability, Developmental Disabilities, and a brief section called What the Future Holds. In every area, it was unanimously stressed that parents do play a significant role for the children who have these kind of disorder to cope up with their present situation. In this case, it is vital for the parents to have atleast share the burden that their children are experiencing. This would help them in thief fight against these disorders. It is also emphasized that the support of the parents should be 100 percent from the time they obtain the diagnosis of the child in order for them to be the source of strength and inspiration of the children. In this case, one can be assured that the child would have a better outlook and would have a better chance to survive the disease. From the diagnosis alone, parents should also anticipate the worst but the book also emphasizes to hope for the best and never stop fighting the disorder. Initially, the diagnosis serves as a map on what would the parents has to do next. This is somewhat their guiding light in fulfilling their duties as parents of the children with disorders. Parents are considered as pillars of the children, the one who they turn to when they are in trouble and the one with whom children with these kinds of disorders derive their strength. The book also teaches how to deal with this kind of scenario based on the findings of diagnosis. This thing would help them in terms of determining the rightful move in terms of accepting this kind of fate. Book Review 4 The second area focuses on growing up with disability, which means parents, should also involve themselves in the development of their children. Of course it is much easier to be said than done but the thing is, it is vital for the children to cope up with their present situation. The book also teaches the parents to “grow with their children” in which by doing so they would develop a parent-child relationship like normal children in which the parents would know the needs of their children and the children with disorders would feel a sense of security in everything they do because they can be assured of themselves. This book focuses more on how to deal with the disorder and a little touch with the definition of disorder. Growing up with disability also teaches a precise picture on what should be done and what to expect on situational changes that is happening when children with disorder grows up and what are the prime points to lessen the impact of the disorder while the child grows up. Analysis and definition of behavior is also provided in order for the parents to have a guiding light when it comes to coping up with the needs of children who have this kind of situation. It also point out key factors on how the disorders worsen or be lessened depending on the care and nurturing management that the parents use. This also points out how people have stereotyped the disorder and how these outlooks have changed the perspective of the people. What the future holds pointed out how the future of these children can be determined through proper management of the parents in order for their children to accept their status and for these children to have proper perspective towards life. All in all, the book is somewhat a complete-ingredient meal for parents who have children with disorder whether it is a physical or a psychological one, one can never go wrong in choosing this book as people would deem this one as a way on how people would treat cases like this. Also, people who are studying this field would have a thorough knowledge on how people and science look into this kind of situation. This book offers a complete idea and factual knowledge on how disorders particularly on children affects and how remedy can be done in order to cope up with this kind of situation.
