In private enterprise, that obviously operates in the most rational manner and its decisions are geared to maximise profit, altruism can optimise benefits to the society. The interests of private companies are concerned not only with their economic performance but also with their obligations to society and the environment. Private enterprises are increasingly aware of their responsibility to the stakeholders in the enterprise which includes their suppliers, customers, society and the environment they operate in.
One way towards meeting their obligation is by supporting volunteer teams formed of their employees who work towards improvement in the community according to its needs. Despite this, we found that most of them do take their roles in society very seriously and take no interest in forming employee volunteer teams aimed at contributing to community. Most of the activities of these teams are neither profit-making nor related to the company's long-term strategic investments. Enterprises offer internal support to employee volunteer teams who focus on the community needs and a diverse range of community issues.
This brings some rewards to the company and the participants of the teams such as a feeling of achievement and an enhancement of the public image of both. This part mainly introduces the characteristics and different approaches of employee volunteer teams in Hong Kong. . Significant Impact of EV Activity and Public Expectations:To study this aspect a well-known employee volunteer team in Hong Kong, CLP Limited has been studied. The conclusions will be based on the results of a telephone survey about the public awareness and expectations of corporate citizenship conducted some time ago. It shall also examine what motivates the employee volunteer teams and look at the reasons they choose to carry out the community services. Research approachThe aims of the project are to review the concept of altruism and extend the perspective to EV activities in Hong Kong.
It will focus on an in-depth analysis of available literature and information, supported by the use of sampling and interview results of an earlier study conducted on the subject. This project is a qualitative study only and is based entirely on literature survey, documentary review, and web search results.Basically, the information can be categorized into two types: namely the literature on the concept of altruism, and the available information on EV and related survey results. A brief reference to individual altruism will also be made in order to give better perspective to enterprise altruism.
