Crusoe found God, and on his spiritual journey, saw His Divine Providence in all things. He began as a sinner, uncaring for God or man, received God's help, and was grateful. He slipped, losing God through despair, but found Him again, seeing His Hand in all things. He became more caring of others, less selfish, a sinner saved. Essay Topic 2: C. Relating to Others With Justice and CharityAt the start of his adventures, Robinson Crusoe was a willful, selfish young man who showed little thought for others.

Along the way, he gained a conscience and a moral outlook that prompted him to become more away of himself and the need to treat other people with charity and justice. He was not perfect, but his attempts to be moral reflected the experience of most humans trying to live a good life, with concern for others and doing his best at the heart of this.At the start, he ignored his parents' fears, to do what he wanted, being neither charitable nor just, by running away to sea, "leaving them to hear of it as they might" (6, Vol. 1). He was not totally bad, showing gratitude for the Sea Captain, and recognizing good in others: "an Honest and plain-dealing man", with "Integrity and Honesty" (16, Vol. 1). He enlisted support and loyalty from the Portuguese Captain, a trust that lasted, so Crusoe's character must have had some good qualities, even then.

Yet his treatment of Xury was morally questionable, despite helping the boy to escape. Selling him for 10 more years of slavery and enforcing conversion, was not charitable. Crusoe's complex character and his own moral code may have made him think he acted morally. A promise to "give the boy an Obligation and set him free in ten years, if he turned Christian" (37, Vol. 1) might have seemed just to Crusoe, but was uncharitable and betrayal of a friend.On the island, following his vision and consequent religious faith, his initial intent to kill the cannibals was tempered by a sense of justice.

"These people have done me no injury therefore it could not be just for me to fall upon them." (198, Vol. 1). He was charitable to Friday, extending this to Friday's father.
