Extract of sample "International Background and MBA School"

The commitment animates my journey as I explore the opportunities I seek in this country to further my potential and make me grow as a person. Beyond that, however, and what would distinguish me from other international students studying in the United States, is that I actually have experience in international commerce by virtue of the career path I have chosen, and my current job involving the movement of goods between the US and South Korea.

Transnational movement of goods is certainly a fundamental topic in trade and business and it could be easily learned in the classroom, but my real-life experiences in it have taught me that it has a cultural perspective as well. As the head of a team supplying South Korean raw materials to the United States, it has seemed many times that my job entailed not just the simple shipment of blow motors, but also doing a balancing act between two distinct and rich cultures. Thus, it is my belief that I have been afforded the unique opportunity of viewing this cultural aspect up-close, exploring its nuances, and perhaps most importantly, hurdling its challenges.

Before working at my present company, I was employed by Hanwha Motors, and this helped me gain insights into the automotive industry of Europe, a thriving industry careening as fast as the automobiles it produces. Truly I can say that my international experiences have been varied and colorful. I am humbled by the vastness and multi-faceted nature of international commerce, and I am challenged at the possibility of using these experiences to bring life and depth to MBA lessons and to contribute to classroom discussions as well. The European efficiency, the Asian work ethic and the American thirst for knowledge are values that I have accumulated over the years, and I am certain that they have made me prepared for the road ahead.

Indeed, I look forward to being part of a heterogeneous multi-cultural academic community where fresh ideas are exchanged and new perspectives are sought. I know that my classmates carry with their unique perspectives of their own from their rich and distinct backgrounds,  as well as diverse skills and talents, and it would truly be a privilege to share insights, while at the same time, live up to and being worthy of the standard of excellence that this institution is known for.
