Question: Why is collective security important in international relations Answer: In the world today, all s are the main actors in the international system. They have goals ranging from national security to national welfare to the elevation of a philosophy. Following and shielding such goals frequently direct towards disagreement between states. However, along with these disagreements, states also try to make the world safer, where conflicts could not reoccur. Thus, in order to reduce the unanticipated and adverse situations, states have determined both familiar and prescribed, imperatives and establishments to direct their connections.

To preserve peace after World War I the League of Nations was created in 1920 and the principle of collective security was adopted. . It entails that all members have to accept and obey the rules of international law which forbid any process of employing violent behavior within the group (Stromberg, 2008, p. 1). Three important agreements have been made in this context, those are, The RIO in 1947, NATO in 1949 and WARSAW in 1955, pledging each member to avoid belligerence against each other. (Ishay, 2004, p. 225)The concept of collective security seems to be of major importance in the study of international relations and worldwide politics but the application of the concept in practice has achieved little success.

It now suffers a mottled status in the context of international relations. Its significant collapse as exposed by the League of Nations is the focal representation left to the world since 1930. The eternal squabbling and ineffective pretentiousness of the United Nations throughout the Cold War period additionally disgraced the idea of collective security. (Kaloudis, 1998, P.1)As stated by James E. Goodby, in terms of international relations and politics, what seem to work in the past were collective defense alliances like NATO assurance to protect each associate state from exterior hostility.

In the rear of this shelter of collective defense was the sword of nuclear prevention, continually on the alert, regularly sharpened and fortified by augmenting novel and enhanced artillery structures but such alliances disappeared all of a sudden leaving it to the nations of the world to join in, strength and to deter and even to roll back aggression and settle internal conflicts and attain peace and security individually and thus ultimately collectively.
