How does the narrator establish the effect that jacket had on his life?
He was really disappointed with the jacket and “it was a sad time for the heart”. From the words of the narrator, we learn that he was waiting for something good to happen to him in that jacket and it never happened to him. He was sure that as long as the jacket is with him he wouldn’t have success in anything and as he wasn’t going to get rid of it he was destined for bad and unfortunate life.

The author has a negative attitude toward sexuality. This can be seen in the third, fourth, and fifth paragraphs of the essay, where she tells about “the magazines trumpeting sexuality” and describes the details of the ads. She is against replacing romance with sexuality and this can be seen in the fifth paragraph where she tells that what we see in those magazines is a marketing invention and that “after the photo shoot was over” all the romance disappears.

The author is for using birth control. This can be seen in the second paragraph of the essay where she asks Elian why she hadn’t used birth control.
