In a business venture, its mission/vision ment and value ment serves as its overall guide and pathway wherein the all its activities and decisions should be based. It gives us a glimpse of the business' path and "heart" for its direction and possibility of success.
Browsing on overall strategic purpose and position of O2 mobile phones by summarising its mission, vision and value statements. O2's mission statement clearly shows its focus on creating "an inseparable relationship with" their customer "by understanding their needs and delivering wireless solutions that they [the customers] truly value." Its vision of being "a mobile brand by enriching people's lives, whatever they're doing, wherever they are" fittingly jibes with its mission statement. Together with its values of boldness, openness, trustworthiness, and clarity both in the products they sell and services that they render, O2 puts premium on creating a steady bond and relationship with its customers by providing them mobile phones that would enrich their lives.
Upon reading O2's mission, vision and value statements, I would say that O2 have fairly pass the test for a mission statement to be considered good. O2's strategic purpose clearly laid down a simple and clear foundation that enables investors and customers to gauge the company's progress. By clearly indicating in its mission statement the bare essence of its existence (i.e. creating an inseparable relationship with their customer by understanding and providing effective and necessary wireless solutions for them) it has provided a clear yardstick of progress for others to measure with. And, because of its straightforwardness and simplicity, O2 has successfully limited other's expectation concerning its growth through its mission statement.
The clarity of their vision of creating mobile phones that would "enrich their customers" gives us a definite factor that differentiates its product line from its competitors. While its competitors could be preoccupied in writing vague mission and vision statements, O2 has managed to discipline its strategic position in producing user-friendly and customer-oriented mobile phones.
The company also points out in both their mission and vision statements the management's desire for its own and the mobile phone industry's future. Its dream of creating a steady bond and relationship with its customers by providing them mobile phones that would enrich their lives gives us pointers on what to expect in O2's future plans and activities. They brilliantly sketch a detailed path where the company aims to take.
Giving the prospective investors simple and clear overview on what to expect from the company eases their burden in figuring out what is at stake if they invest in O2. Instead of presenting vague insights of their future, O2 successfully singles out its basis for its future plans by its jotting down its mission of producing mobile phones that specifically provides solution for their customer's need for mobile phones that will make our lives easier and productive.
By envisioning the future of mobile phones that would address customer's need for a better and richer life, O2 inspires its investors in engaging into a business partnership with them. Their mission of creating phones, which purpose and functionality goes beyond the communicative powers of mobile phones, provides us a glimpse of what is to come in the mobile phone industry. This lucid image of what is to come incites investors to infuse financial backing for the company.
