This article is written by Anderson S, McClain N and Riviello RJ. The topic which is taken up in this article is regarding the quality of evidence produced at forensic examination after an intercourse. Apart from the topic and the findings, overall, article has been written in an impressive way. The authors have tried to deal as many areas as possible for writing a good article. Even then, an article cannot be written with 100 percent accuracy and completion. The authors of this article have developed a title which provides important information about the main idea of the article.

Although, they have not mentioned anything related to time geographic location of the study which enhance the interest of the readers; still the mentioning of the type of intercourse, consensual and non-consensual, improves its strength. This article does not contain an abstract. As an abstract is summary of an article so it should cover all the important sections of a research article, like: background, the methods, findings, conclusion and implications. It is the quality of a good abstract that the main theme of the research carried out and the point of view of the researchers should be narrated in a coherent way so that the reader could clearly understand this summary.

The authors provide a very comprehensive account on the introduction. They specifically discussed the issues related to the topic with reference to the US. To further strengthen the statements the authors have utilized various sources available. This article does include the section on background; this has been addressed in a short but comprehensive way. Here the authors discussed various terminologies in use by the US department of Justice and the criteria related to the event of a rape. The authors of this article have tried to address important aspects of the available evidence under the section on literature review.

Literature review in an article helps in understanding the strength of the work carried out in the current research and the level of expertise of the authors. Literature review also helps in refreshing and updating the knowledge of the readers on the topic in debate. The authors shared the existing evidence on the topic in an unbiased way irrespective of the findings of their own research. They have tried to bring in the account all the positive and negative; supporting and opposing pieces of evidence.

This article describes the aims of the study being presented. It is important for a reader to get the idea at the very beginning of an article why it was written; this answer is provided by a good aim or objective of that article. They also have described getting approval from the university's Human Subject Investigation Committee. Overall, section on methodology has been presented very well. The methodology section helps in making things clear as far as the actual activities are carried out in completing a research project.

This section covers how the study being discussed was conducted, providing the readers with guidelines to review the methods used and assess whether this methodology can be repeated elsewhere or not. The authors describe the setting, patient load, forensic team, the examination procedures alongwith the instruments. They also mention the data entry by sharing the name of the software which is important for a reader to understand the data entry and analysis. This article does not mention anything related to the target sample required.

A target sample size for any research study is very important. It is calculated to capture the main estimates related to the outcome variables and also provide am impression of scientific procedures adapted. Data management is a group of activities conducted right from the time of development of the data collection instruments and it continues through the stages of data collection, validation, editing to entry and analysis. The authors of this study did not mention various steps related to data management except data entry and analysis.

They have described the section on statistical analysis in an excellent way. They have stated various types of variables and the statistical tests used. Explanation for using a specific test is important and it also agrees to the requirement of this type of analysis. They also informed about the multivariable regression analysis. This analysis is an advance level one and itself strengthens the research study carried out. They have presented various result findings in different tables. They describe demographics and injuries and in separate tables; they also provided analysis on number of injuries and their anatomical location.

The authors also compare these findings among the two groups and provide p-values. Through the analysis, the authors provide an account of the variables associated with the outcome variables, by mentioning the odds ratios (OR). Discussion section of any scientific article makes the article acceptable or not! It is this section where results of the current study are compared to the previous ones and thus a detail debate is carried out. The authors try to bring their study in the line of existing evidence if the results are alike; at times the results are against what had been presented in earlier studies then a plausible explanation is required by the authors to state his or her view point.

The authors have provided arguments to explain what they have found in this study. They have discussed all the important points and the outcome measures which they have looked at in this study one by one. This has been carried out in proper way. Narrating the limitations of a research study explicitly reflect the hold and neutral position of the authors. It also suggests about the careful nature of the authors who could identify the shortcomings of their study. No study can be carried out with 100 percent accuracy and without any deficiency but sharing any limitations are very important and professional characteristics.

The authors of this article have shared the various strengths and limitations of this study. Drawing some important conclusions is also a key task which should not be overlooked. It determines the accomplishment of the objectives set at the beginning of the research study. It also reflects the ability of the authors to extract what have been important findings other than the set objectives. In this article, the authors have shared what they concluded out of the findings of their study. Reference section of any article lists the evidence used in that article.

As research is an outgoing process and at the same time new research activity either supports the previous evidence or refute what has become an established fact. This is a continuous process. Usually, evidence from recent past is the area of focus. A strong rationale for a research activity is developed with the help of current evidence because the old evidence has been either tested and eventually approved or refuted. The evidence base used in this article, although, has been wide but the majority of the cited sources are as old as ten years or more.
