Lab Report: Nutritional Growth of Bacteria This study focused on detecting and observing the bacterial growth by supplying and providing it the nutrients needed to grow its colony. At the end of this study, the facts that deal with the role of various nutrients in the bacterial growth were presented for analysis and discussion. It comprises the speed of its growth. This also deals with the entire period of time which can hold and manipulate a number of not just a single bacteria but the growth of the whole family of the microorganisms we have. We considered the factors that affects this bacteria's such as the Escherichia Coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Staphylococcus epidermiditis, Salmonella enteriditis, and the shigella somni. These are bacteria's, they are one of the major groups of microorganisms together with the viruses, fungi, protozoa and algae. To go on through this activity, materials are first was settled together with the medias and the counting performance and the methods to be done. The results were constructed in a summarized manner and are constructed with a form of graphical presentation and curves. Data gathered are correlated in a logical manner for generating a verified conclusion. Introduction Bacteria as a microbe live in most of the world's habitats and are indispensable for normal balance life on earth. Bacterias so like as the other group of microorganism needs to live and require an environment suited to their needs for growth. Bacteria's are unicellular and are lacking chlorophyll though they are plant-like. Different species of bacteria have different food requirements, which the environment must provide in terms of their nutritional needs. Since the bacterial nutrition is defined as the determination of the types and amounts of chemicals required for optimal growth of microorganism like carbon for the heterotrophic; these are the bacteria which comprises the great majority of species, they must obtain their carbon and nitrogen from more or less complex organic compounds- carbon from proteins, fats and carbohydrates; nitrogen usually amino acids or nitrites. autotrophies is carbon dioxide; they are the bacteria that grows in the absence of organic matter, they build their own food supply from simple inorganic substances, many of the soil bacteria is in this group, which utilizes carbon dioxide, ammonia or nitrites as sources of carbon and nitrogen,; While the chemo tropic's source is chemicals; and the prototroph is the utilized light. Microorganisms are quite versatile, because of their ability to adapt easily. And various nutrients play in the metabolism and growth of bacteria. Materials and Methods Microbial growth is measured by examining the increase in the population size of the bacteria whether direct or indirect. We count the number of cells using a counting grid and only living organism will be counted in the whole population on an agar medium. If we measure it indirectly, we measure the mass of cells whether dry or wet weight) or the turbidity of a liquid suspension with the use of spectrophotometer. Here we have examined the influenced of temperature, like for instance in the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis, they are measured in three (3) different temperatures for 26.5 hour. The spectrophotometer technique (indirect method) and viable count spread-plate technique (direct method) are used to monitor bacterial growth. . Microbiology as a science is very dependent on a number of specialized laboratory techniques. Laboratory steps routinely employed in experiments involving any microorganism such as bacteria are inoculation, incubation, isolation, inspection and identification. Initially, a specimen must be collected from a source whether environmental or a patient. 1. Inoculation of a medium is the first step in obtaining a culture of microorganisms present 2. Incubation of the medium with microbes under the right conditions allows growth to visible colonies. Generally, isolated colonies would be subculture in most cases or mixed cultures. Contaminated cultures can ruin correct analysis and study. 3. Isolation of the microorganisms, so that each microbial cell present is present from the others and the forms discrete colonies is aided by inoculation technique such as streak plates, pour plates and spread plates. 4. Inspection begins with macroscopic characteristics of the colonies, and continues with microscopic analysis. 5. Identification correlates the various morphological, physiological, genetic, and serological traits as needed to be bale to pinpoint the actual species or even the strain of the microbe. One of the experiment uses the followings as a medium: Eosin methylene blue -as a selective medium, this will inhibit the growth of some microbes while permitting the growth of the another, this facilitates the bacterial isolation. Manitol salt agar - as a selective and differential medium, this contains chemicals that will allow certain microbes to grow while preventing others from growing as well as causing the ones that grow appear different so that they can be distinguished from each other. Hektoen enteric medium- as a selective and differential medium, same with the Manitol salt agar's function. These agents are used to induce the growth of the bacteria to be able to see if they will react easily to the media and stimulated them to reproduce and create their colony. In this study we have seen in what factor does a bacteria have lesser production and where it has a strong colony by counting the number of colonies and even taking notes of the temperature measure. Discussion Bacteria may reproduce by binary fission at an average maximum rate of every 20 minutes, but this rate is maintained for only a short period. When bacteria are inoculated into a culture medium the pass through a certain periods of growth. Culture Eosin Methylene Blue Agar (red) Mannitol Salt Agar (orange) Hektoen Enteric Agar (green) Staphylococcus Aureus Staphylococcus epidermidis Escherichia coli Enterobacter aerogenes Salmonella enteritidis Shigella Sonni Growth of bacteria depends on its environment. Their source for growth based on their real needs is controlled and manages to be tested in this experimentation to be able to know their bacterial nutrition growth. Considering the medias and the inorganic and organic substances placed as source of nutrients for the microorganism; bacteria. In the experiment , as the temperature lowers the lesser the growth of bacteria. Thoroughly after the experimentation, the reaction of each bacteria to each media showed their distinguish tic characteristics in terms of their color when placed on a certain media. We had examined that bacteria have their own factors in their growth. Here we stimulated their strengths in forming their colony and here we had observed the factors that can minimize their speed of growth rates and characteristics.
