This strategy is aimed at abating, if not eliminating, etiologic agents of the disease, like microbial film and subgingival calculus [2], and restoring the periodontal attachment level through the reconnection of periodontal fibers with newly formed cementum [5,6].
For nonsurgical management of early to moderate chronic periodontitis, scaling and root planing (SRP) remains the traditional initial approach of treatment. Scaling removes plaque, calculus, and stain from the crown and root surfaces while root planing entails the complete debridement of cementum or dentin from the root surface for the purpose of smoothing it and displacing it calculus [7]. The procedure also extends to adjacent periodontal tissues [8]. Although the positive effects of SRP in chronic periodontitis have been, time and again, validated, i.e., “reduction of clinical inflammation, microbial shifts to a less pathogenic subgingival flora, decreased probing depth, gain of clinical attachment, and less disease progression,”[5] This procedure has known drawbacks.
The use of manual instruments and ultrasonic scalers commonly forming part of the SRP procedure makes it more time consuming and often incomplete due to tooth topography, and often painful [9]. Cobb (2008), for example, observes that in university-administered clinical trials, a quadrant of SRP often takes about 70 minutes, or 10 minutes per tooth with 10 minutes allowed for patient setting and anesthesia administration. In private practice, however, this time is deliberately trimmed down engendering reduced results often observed in recent clinical trials [5]. In cases where gingival recession exists, opened root surfaces may remain.  ...Download file to see next pages Read More

... to the consistency of measures on repeated applications. The items in the questionnaire were divided into halves and the scores on each half were correlated with one another to estimate the degree to which the items are equivalent to each other. The coefficient of equivalence by means of Spearman-Brown correlation formula was computed to be at 0.6 which indicates moderate correlation. Therefore, it is safe to presume that there is no significant difference in the scores derived from both forms of the scale. This entails that the respondents’ responses are consistent regardless of the particular sampling of items. To confirm, Cronbach’s alpha was computed and based on the obtained value of 0.6, it can be deduced that the scale is reliable...

One Concept, One Reading, and One Application

This concept has been refined over a period of time based on the experience gained by television professionals and the public in dealing with the social issues. This audience engagement is more pronounced in TV debates than in any other programs on television. It doesn’t exist only at the ‘moment of reading’ but, the subject lingers in the minds of the audience which might prompt them to react later. Therefore, effectiveness of communication at this stage, if at all it is intended, can be measured by its impact on the public subsequently. In any other case, the impact of a good debate is expected to form a public opinion or shape up the public’s attitude in social issues of various kinds. Social subjectivity argument is more amen...

.... The lens loose their ability to alter their focusing power, the capsule which contains the lens in the eye loses its suppleness. The combination of these two factors results in a decrease in the ability to accommodate (reduced accommodation) (Woodruff 2001).This results in progressive prescription addition with the passage of time. Anisometropia Anisometropia is caused due to the differences in the dioptric values between both eyes of a single person. This is generally caused either due to refractive surgery causing a difference in the ability of both eyes. Other reasons are overcorrections of myopic and hyperopic patients. Lastly, Anisometropia is also caused, if one eye is significantly more astigmatic than the other. Irregular...

Scaling stages

...Stages of scaling development: The process of Scaling is consisting of five stages: induction, transport, attachment, removal and ageing (Epstein 1983a). Induction: Induction is, in fact, the pending time, towards reaching the scaling initiation process. Induction is the delayed phase between which nuclei are formed for crystallisation and also nutrients are deposited for further biological growth. The induction period can go on, for an arguably long span of time, possibly many weeks, only minutes or maybe even seconds. However, for crystallisation fouling, the initial phase duration lessens with an increase in the surface temperature (Epstein 1983b). Transport towards the surface: The scalant or their precursors in a moving fluid...

Strategic Planning for Results

With its concentration mainly underlying major markets in the world like; Europe, the UK, USA, and South America its indulgence in small markets like The Middle East, Africa, and Asia will be very important.
However, in this paper, I tend to forecast the future market of Santander bank will be in the Asian continent and more specifically the Indian market. India is a store of all valuables ranging from minerals, agricultural products, and trade. This region remains unexploited so far by major companies in the world. It is basically a country full of promises as it depicts ever increasing economy trends. India remains open to any upcoming company as long as the benefits are mutual, not exploitative (Sanyal 2001).
