Infertility and Public Health
Workshop
Infertility for the Primary Care Physician
Who should attend:
Any primary care physician who is directly or indirectly caring for patients that have infertility issues or are being treated for such.
Abstract
Infertility is a common condition that is often seen in the primary care physician's office. It is defined as a year of unprotected intercourse during which pregnancy is not achieved. This may amount to 15-20% of American couples. The diagnostic evaluation is often initiated by the primary care physician (Frey & Patel, 2010).
Objectives
• The participant will be able to determine infertility problems from a diagnostic exam
• The participant will understand the psychological issues related to infertility
• The participant will understand the physical issues and how they affect the patient psychologically.
• The participant will be able to describe hormonal treatment, fertility drug use, IVP, and ERP.
• The participant will understand the types of financial issues involved in this treatment.
Program Outline
I.  Definition of fertility problems and the diagnostic needs for each
A.  Presentation by Dr. Albert Jones from the Infertility Institute
II.  Psychological Issues related to infertility.
A.  Presentation by Dr. Jean Davis, Psychologist
III. Physical Issues related to infertility.
A.  Presentation by David Blackmon, Infertility Institute
IV.  Video provided by the Infertility Institute on IVP and ERP with a thorough
explanation of hormonal treatment and fertility drugs by Dr. Albert Jones.
V.  Financial Issues
A. Presented by the Director of the Business Office, Financial Institute.
VI. Post Workshop Quiz for CEUs.
This workshop will take approximately 2 hours and will provide 3 hours of physician CEUs when the post-program quiz is taken and the evaluation is turned in.
In conclusion, certainly, any workshop provided for a group of physicians like this would have to contain lectures from specialists. I daresay, in order to cover the importance of the above-mentioned problems, more than two hours is needed and this is better covered in an all-day workshop. There is also much more specificity that will need to be developed for each section. Read More
