Interestingly, metals are also come in different forms and are not only used for industrial purposes but also in science specifically in the area of medical treatment. Metals are usually perceived to have positive effects to the human body, but metals are also very dangerous as they are poisonous when ingested in the body through breathing and oral intake. However, dangerous metals cans be beneficial to humans. It is also through metals that science was able to produce treatments to the various diseases that plague both children and adults. Corrosives and metals and their salts are the two kinds of inorganic poisons. Corrosives are poisons that inflame ad destroy tissues. Their local action is the prominent clinical feature, and their general action from absorption is secondary. Alkaline corrosives are a group of strong inorganic bases, such as hydroxides of sodium and potassium, lye, quicklime and ammonia water. In the body they invade cells and form alkaline albuminates. Even in dilute form they cause severe inflammation, converting the stomach mucous membrane into a moist, swollen layer. The most important of the metal poisons are phosphorous, arsenic, antimony, bismuth, mercury, radioactive substances, gold, tin, copper, and manganese. When uncombined, mercury is used only for its bulk. As it is without medicinal effect, at one tie as much as two pounds of uncombined mercury would be given for the purpose of mechanically dislodging some obstructions in the intestines. Although calcium does not occur free in nature, its compounds are abundant and widely distributed. It ranks fifth in abundance among the elements and third among the metals. Calcite is amongst its important minerals, fluorite, gypsum, anhydrite, apatite, and anorthite. Calcium is found in the teeth, bones, and the shells of mollusks. Calcium metabolism is the phenomenon referred to the use of the element calcium by the body in the production of energy and body growth. In the body, calcium s closely related to another element, phosphorus which is usually found as phosphate. Low doses of mercury result to language disabilities, attention and memory problems. In cases where children suffer from autism, studies show that the illness has a genetic tendency that make a particular group of children more susceptible to the effects of heavy metals as well as other toxins. With the use of several processes, metals change into different forms – solid, liquid, and gas – to be used for many purposes. In the field of treatment and medicines metals are used to help people combat disease and keep them healthy. However, both physicians and other medical professionals are very cautious is administering metals as treat because too much could lead into a lot of complications, even death. Heavy metals abound in areas where manufacturing and industrial activities exists. The only issue in metal treatment and poisoning is that it is difficult for an average person to discriminate and be aware of whether one is not in danger against these toxic elements. Treatment can only be immediately administered once the type of metal has been identified; if not, a series of test should be done to reveal if the kind of poison that was taken in.
