Personal ment Personal ment Malcolm X once claimed that the media is a very significant and robust entity in the modern world. Additionally, he also stated that without a proper education or learning, it is difficult and complex to advance in the modern world. These two statements by Malcolm X have greatly influenced my desire to pursue a Master in Science Media production at the imperial college London. Knowledge combined with the power and influence of the media is what drives, influences and shapes the lives and intrigues of the current world (the media for example influences both the economic and political environments). The urge or need for a Master in Science Media production tends to ignite interest in me from as early as I can remember. Mostly, I am fascinated by the ability of creating and designing programs and content that will educate and help better or improve the lives of people across the globe. Additionally, the preservation of the information created for future generations is another interesting aspect that draws my attention to the study of the media. Form my personal research, I have come to know a lot about the media to realise that knowledge and experience in the sector is all I yearn for. As a graduate from Michigan state university majoring in media and information, I have gained real world experience in the art of meeting set deadlines and journalistic writing. From a tender age, like most people, my interest in media developed subconsciously without knowing it. The entertaining programs on TV, the well-crafted news, and the catchy commercials that urged me to purchase some of the products fascinated me. Therefore, the media impacts a wide range of people from an early age, whether they like it or not. Then came the chance to be part of that force that influences nearly every person globally. As a media student, I came to learn about the secrets in the media industry, and why the media did the type of things they did and how to effectively attract the audience while educating the masses at the same time. Thus, by undertaking a Master in Science Media production will aid me to gain new tactics and skills which translates to more knowledge. Moreover, more knowledge in the field of media production will aid me to not only advance but also shine and flourish in this field. The master programme will enable me to specialise in media studies. As a result of specialisation, I will consequently build an impressive and good portfolio in media production. Lastly, the study of a master in Media production will aid me to effectively launch my career in the field of journalism. Through the master programme, I expect to get an understanding of the media from an academic and practical perspective, analysing how the media influences society, its often complex history and how to interpret it. As illustrated above, the media is a significant aspect of both my personal and academic life. Thus, I feel and truly believe that being allowed to undertake a Master in Science Media production would greatly aid me in fulfilling my future career goals in journalism. Also, taking the course in the United Kingdom will be a new experience from home. On a positive note, studying away from home will further equip me with the relevant independence skills. Movie Review The movie I would like to review is a 2014 spy film under the action comedy genre Kingsman: The Secret Service. Mathew Vaughn took his role as a director seriously. Due to its fun, subversive and above all stylish creation, I give the film a 4 star rating. The reasons for the excellent rating will be highlighted and discussed in the text. The movie was adapted form Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’s comic book the secret service. Whereas the film stars include Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Taron Egerton and Mark Storng, Jane Goldman and Vaughn wrote the screen play. As they say, clothes make and define the man. Colin firth in this movie is depicted in a nicely tailored suit in nearly all scenes. Over the years, the major complaint that has often dogged the bond franchise is the inescapable notion that the films never quite show in great detail the violence they are often associated with in theory. However, the film has managed to bypass these criticisms hence showing more details and violence. Based on Dave Gibbons and mark Millar’s comic book, the film follows a British espionage group which is primarily inspired by King Arthur. The espionage group easily save the world without getting involved in the muddy and complex politics that has in most occasions dented the efforts being made by the state’s spy organisations. After losing the group’s Lancelot in its attempt to save Mark Hamill (a kidnapped scientist) the group commences looking for a perfect or suitable replacement. In the process, agent Harry (Colin Firth) nominates Gary ‘Eggsy’ (Taron Egerton). On the face of it, Eggsy is an ordinary young lad who resides with his mother. His mother is in a relationship with an often abusive boyfriend. As a result of this, Eggsy is mostly getting into trouble. On a closer look, Eggsy is no ordinary lad; he is the son of late Kingsman who perished so as to save Harry and the others. In summary, the film is about a spy organisation that recruits a normal lad into its intense training program, just as a worldwide threat from a tech genius emerges. The reason I did not give the film a 5 star rating is that I found it to be too violent. This might contradict my earlier statement where I implied that a more violent bond movie would be appropriate. A little violence is always appreciated but too much violence is always a turn off. All in all, the film is a must watch for those who have not had the chance to view it. The Miscarriage Proposal to the BBC One of the most traumatic experiences people often face is losing their loved ones. Nonetheless, a more harrowing experience is losing your loved one before getting the chance to see him or her. In a mother’s womb, we reek of future potential and success, all innocent with nothing but love and well wishes from the dreams of our parents. In light of this, the documentary will focus on the harrowing and heart numbing experiences of women who have had miscarriages. According to the American pregnancy association, miscarriage refers to the act of losing a pregnancy within the first 20 gestation weeks (Regan & Rai, 2000). It is vital to understand that a miscarriage happens on its own. The central narrative of miscarriage will be tale of a single woman, commencing with her longing for a child, and ending with her experience of a miscarriage. Rather than closing itself around the main figure (the woman), the film will fluidly open to a wide area of topics under the miscarriage theme. All these topics will be giving in depth analysis about miscarriages globally, and specifically in the United States of America. Some of the subtopics include; the current miscarriage statistics, why do they (miscarriages) occur, chances of women having a miscarriage, symptoms of a miscarriage, the different miscarriage types, treatment of a miscarriage, and finally how to prevent a miscarriage. To address the theme of miscarriage as well as the woman’s story, a nonlinear stream of sound and images would be used. Some of the elements include: voice over text of the woman’s story, followed by images, voiceover of the woman talking about her desire to conceive and the subsequent pain of having a miscarriage, and voice over text of a doctor trying to explain the complex concepts of a miscarriage.
