Starting a Blog Starting a Blog These five blog entries are meant to further the spread of knowledge and information on health and fitness in a way that will broaden the understanding of specific subjects. The subjects explored include ways of cutting down on the levels of cholesterol, the question of culture on health, the role of fruits in fitness, and information on the use of supplements. Introduction. The pursuit of health and fitness requires a consistent gathering of knowledge in ways that would improve on past misinformation and the current trends in healthcare. These blog entries bring together a range of subjects that are pertinent to current global healthcare and fitness challenges especially when considered together with the need to reverse the rising incidences of lifestyle diseases. Foods that Reduce Cholesterol in Your Body. Individuals and societies around the globe should acknowledge the impact of diet on health and nutrition. It is common knowledge that a consistent pursuit of the right forms of diet can help bring down the incident of some of the lifestyle diseases among individuals, families, groups, and societies. Indeed, the rise in heart diseases, diabetes, some forms of cancer, obesity, and other life conditions correlated with the increase in poor diet practices across the globe (Shils, 2005). As such, it becomes necessary to consider the impact of nutrition within the understanding of the current trends and dietary practices and the consequences on human health. Most nutritionists will easily agree that the best way to maintain a healthy diet and cut down on the levels of cholesterol in the body is to reduce the daily intake of foods rich in cholesterol. The danger is that most people tend to ignore the value of restricting their diet to foods that are significantly lower in the levels of cholesterol. Many others lack access to the kind of knowledge that would help them avoid adverse health practices that are associated with high levels of cholesterol. However, basic categorizing of food into those that have high and cholesterol levels is one of the ways by which people can avoid the adverse impacts of cholesterol. Food substances such as meat pie, butter, cream, hard cheese, and biscuits contain high levels of saturated fat. Such foods have multiple adverse effects on health and fitness. Other foods such as salmon, mackerel, almond, sunflower, and corn have unsaturated cholesterol. A consistent pattern of feeding on this group of food can reduce the levels of cholesterol within days or weeks. The Place of Culture in the Fitness Debate. Despite lack of thorough research on the impact of culture on general fitness, there seems to be some overwhelming evidence in some quarters that culture plays a very significant role in the general health of populations. Indices drawn from various societies have shown a significant link between the kind of foods consumed in some cultures and the incident of lifestyle diseases. Any argument or discussion that focuses on the place of culture on society must necessarily include the role of food as one of the material aspects of culture. Nearly every culture has a particular kind of food as its most preferred staple (Preedy, Watson & Martin, 2011). In turn, food affects certain health and societal dynamics such as the prevalence of certain diseases and mortality rates within the given culture. There is also enough scientific cause to hold up the argument regarding the impact of staple foods on the general reproductive health of societies. In essence, individuals and societies should acknowledge the role of cultures in the health statuses of the people. A culture that places emphasis on high sugar content is likely to suffer sharp rises in the incidents of sugar related diseases and other lifestyle ailments. Consequently, it would be expected for such cultures to suffer significant rises in mortality rates as compared to other cultures. As such, it becomes appropriate to weigh the impact of such dietary practices on the general health of the society. As such, it makes great sense for members of such societies to acknowledge the dangers they face and moderate their eating habits in ways that would shield them from the cultural causes of diseases. The Fruit Secrets to Fitness and Longevity. Fruits have a life transforming force that can help health conscious people to achieve their fitness objectives in a less strenuous manner as compared to the other conventional methods. Fruits play a very significant role in detoxification, digestion, and the supply of the kind of vitamins that the body requires for proper growth. Apart from these benefits, fruits also contribute towards the attainment of weight loss objectives particularly for individuals and groups who find it difficult to schedule enough hours for working out in the gym (Preedy, Watson & Martin, 2011). For instance, it is important to consider the fact that fruits provide fiber, which the body requires for multiple purposes in the digestive system. Besides aiding in digestion, fiber prevents the absorption of bad cholesterol within the blood system. This implies that a regular intake of fruits that are rich in fiber can help to reduce the levels of cholesterol within the body. Besides, the fiber that is present in the fruits also assists in the production of the feeling of fullness, which eventually reduces the amount of food that a person consumes. In the very end, the fruits prevent the intake of excessive calories. Over a period of time, the reduction in calories tends to reflect in terms of weight reduction. These benefits reflect for both men and women in equal measure. Therefore, it becomes necessary for people to consider a regular intake of fruits in order to benefit in the same manner and extent as the people who spend long hours on physical activities. Do Supplements Add Value to Your Health? Whenever supplements are mentioned, people tend to turn the subject in the direction of safety and necessity. There is need to bridge the knowledge gap in supplements in order to separate the truths from the falsehoods concerning the use and misuse of supplements. One of the myths that continue to surround the usage of supplements relates to aspect of safety (Hollins, 2009). Many people consider supplements as purely meant for body builders and other fitness enthusiasts who seek supplements for some superficial gains. On the contrary, supplements bring multiple health benefits to scores of people from different stations of life. In addition, supplements come in different types and are meant to benefit different categories of people. One type of supplement is not fit for all. Certain kinds of supplements are meant for the sick while others are meant for people struggling with various forms of health conditions. A person suffering from anemia may require a specific type of supplement to help them cope with the condition. Similarly, individuals struggling with low muscle gain require supplements for the purpose of enhancing the break down of fats into muscles. Some people suffer from various kinds of allergies that prevent them from eating certain proteins. How Should I Choose a Safe Supplement? Supplements made of natural products are considered safer as compared to those that are manufactured from unnatural substances. Past incidents of unsafe supplements have often been associated with unnatural products. It is necessary to read the ingredients on the container and seek the counsel of a health expert before making a decision on the supplement. Some supplements contain allergic substances that could cause reactions depending on the user (Sarubin-Fragakis, et al, 2007). For people with protein allergies, it becomes necessary to find the right kind of supplements that can help them make up for the loss of crucial amino acids. Vegetarians also require special supplements in order to help them replenish the dietary deficiencies that occur because of lack of certain nutrients. However, the use of supplements requires the guidance of a qualified nutritionist expert to reduce the threat of side effects associated with some of them. Only supplements certified by accredited health authorities should be encouraged. In essence, the safety of a supplement relates with the type of supplement, the ingredients, and nature of usage. Rationale for Entries. The first entry regarding the food that reduces the level of cholesterol in the body is important because it supplies important information on the details of diet that could help readers to avoid the risk of cholesterol. The second blog entry on the place of culture in diet is necessary for helping readers to understand the possible impact of their cultural environments on their health statuses. This could help them alter their nutrition practices in line with their long-term and short-term health objectives. The blog on the fruit secrets is meant to reawaken the interest of people in fruits as an important part of their daily diet. Essentially, the blog on fruits is intended to sharpen the awareness of the reader beyond the casual understanding of fruits towards other uses and benefits. The two blogs on supplements are meant to direct some closer concern on supplements as a way of closing the knowledge gap on the same and enhancing the understanding of their impact on health and nutrition. Target Market. The target market of these blog entries is the entire population that has grown increasingly concerned with health and fitness matters. There are no clear demographic distinctions in this category of readers. Both the physically fit and those suffering from various health conditions are welcome to the contents of these blogs. Similarly, the blog entries do not address themselves to any particular gender, age group, race, religion, or culture. The interest is open to all who embrace the value of maintaining proper health and fitness. Calls to Action. The call to action in this blog is essentially built on the aspect of creating an awareness that would form part of a social engineering process that would help people to live healthier lives. Such an approach is considered crucial in the spread of information from multiple centers of knowledge towards the areas of need within the target market. Tracking Statistics. The statistics of these blogs will be tracked by use of social networking sites. Specifically, these statistics will be analyzed in terms of the Facebook likes and responses and the Twitter followings on the same. The statistics will be used to determine the level of popularity or usage of the sites. Conclusion The blogs will enhance the synergies of internet communication in a way that will allow some form of feedback mechanism with the users. The responses to the blogs will also help to broaden the perspectives on the subjects as a way of enhancing the flow of information.
